I remember my mother had a friend named Bertha, and she used to make Banana Cake for us. My mom got her recipe, however, when my mom passed, the recipe went to my sisters, whom never would give it up to me. So, I thank you very much Gramma Berhta's granddaughter for putting it on here. You've answered my prayers. I will treasure it always. Love this comfort food. it brings back many good memories.

This pie was really yummy! althoguh, in my excitement of making a chocolate pie from scratch I misread the chocolate ingredient part, and instead of 3 Tablespoons of cocoa powder, I put a whole lot more. Like 1/3 cup of cocoa powder. Thank God, I love chocolate! It made a very rich chocolate chess pie. And my son says it's Goooooooooood! And yeppers I'm with him on that one. Thank you for the recipe. Definately this one goes into my keepers recipe box.

WOW! I made this fudge today and it's more than half gone already. I was kind of concerned since I woke up to rain. And we all know what we've heard about making fudge in the rain. It does not ring true for this recipe. This is so way cool. Now, I have a new treasured recipe for peanut butter fudge, come rain or shine. Thank you so much for sharing your Grandpa's recipe with all of us.

I've been making this recipe for the past 35 yrs., ever since my mom got a Borden Goodies pamphlet way back in '73. Only difference is now using the microwave. However, I still prefer the double boiler method. My microwave likes to burn chocolate. Ok.......it's me and microwaves don't get along. I even blow-up hot dogs! This is a super easy recipe and the result is always fantastic! Sure beats standing over a hot stove stirring constantly, or waiting for your concoction to reach the proper temp. I just love tose recipes that are super easy and super yummy.

Yikes! Nothing like curdled fudge. My sister told me I did nothing wrong, that it's suppose to looked like that, cuz that's what margarine mixed with melted choc. chips does. It curdles, because of the water in margarine. I really hate to waste chocolate, so I threw them into a batch of chocolate chip cookies along with "normal" chocolate chips and told everyone that they were chocolate chip surprise cookies. The kids and neighbors loved the fudgy pocket surprise. So, as fudge...NOT, but fudgy pocket surprise.......YES!

I know this recipe, and most definitely it's still the best custard pie I've had. I had made one at Christmas and my sister sat down right next to me. As we reminised about Christmases past when our mom made all the goodies, we just couldn't wait until it cooled. We began to just nibble at first, but then it turned to bigger and bigger bites. Before we knew it, it was all gone. Of course when the kids came in from making "snow angels" they got the whiff of something good. hehehehe They were so disappointed to find out it was all gone. Since it's a really super easy pie to make, we ended up making three more later that night. One for my sister, one for me & one for the rest of them. Somehow, though, they didn't think that was fair.(I still laugh thinking about it.)

WOW! I made this earlier today and yeppers, it definitely is a keeper. I used a chocolate graham cracker crust instead of the regular pie crust. My son and I dang near finished the whole thing. We told my hubby he'd better get some before we ate it all gone. He took just a small wee bite and said it was way too sweet. That's okay....More for Us! ;) We stopped when there was just one piece left. My son wants to take it for lunch tomorrow. Hmmm...this is going to be really hard, cuz it's like it beckons me to come and eat it.(mmurrhahaha)But, I'll behave and just make another one tomorrow. I couldn't wait to try this recipe. Seemed simple enough, and it was. I always taste the dough, and it seemed bland. But, I figured maybe it's one of those that taste better after it's baked. It's eww! My son even spit out the one bite he took. It just doesn't have any flavor. Good ingredients, just bad combo for our family. :-(

I just love this recipe. I made it into rolls and took it down to my mother-in-laws for Christmas. DO NOT DO THIS! especially if you have an over powering mother-in-law. I had to freeze them, but still figured they would come out. Oh how foolish I was. They didn't get the proper thawin out time, or rasing time, not even the proper bake time. Sabitoging MIL. They were doughy in the middle, but the crust tasted great! Upon returning home, I made them again. My husband protested, he said that he didn't think it would turn out, cuz of the experience at "moms". I just had to prove it was his "mom", not the bread. Well, YEPPERS I proved him wrong. I just love HOT bread fresh from the oven. Smothered in butter, topped with strawberry jam. I made half the dough into buns and my son claimed them for his sandwiches. We all love love love this recipe. Oh, so easy and sooooooo delish! I would definately rate it a 10-STAR! My hubby even said, "you're right this is good bread. We'll keep this one." I replied a big ol' DUUHH!

Well, the cake batter tasted good, and the aroma was just as sweet. My son saw it and could wait to try it. So, as soon as it was cool enough we cut into it. Wow, a sweet biscuit disguised as cake. That's why I rated it only a one, for as a cake, oh no way! Next time, I make it I will put it into muffin tins and call them sweet biscuits. Thanks for sharing the most interesting bicuit cake I've ever tasted.

I am so glad I found this recipe. We had gone on a vacation and I forgot to put my milk in the freezer. I don't like wasting anything and remembered that my mother used to make sour milk cake all the time. Only thing, I didn't have her recipe, and she passed quite some time ago. I prayed I would be able to find it in one my favorite places to go when I need a recipe. And, yeppers, there it was. I just love this recipe. Only thing I did didfferent was add more chocolate since that's my favorite food. And yes, I do use lard, cuz it makes it soooooooooo yummy. Just like mom's. Thank you again for posting this recipe, you're truelly heaven sent. :-)

Oh my Gosh, this sounded good, even to my hubby and son. However, not good, at least for our taste. It came out to be more like a cake rather than a brownie. And even as a cake, ewww. After trying to choke it down for 2 days, I opted to throw it out for the birds and whatever other wild animal wanted it. They didn't like it either. I ended up burying it.

I haven't had shoofly pie since I was a kid. And every year at Christmas time I crave it, but, haven't ever been able to get a recipe for it until now. Of course I looked for the easiest recipe, and came across this one. As it was baking, the wonderful aroma swept me back to Grandma's kitchen. I could almost picture her tending the oven, making sure us girls didn't peak. Thank you so much for posting this simple and so totally delicious recipe. I let it rest for about 10 minutes. That's all I could wait. I just had to dig in. My son and I have eaten half the pie already. And I made a 12in. deep dish pie. This is definately one of those comfort dishes and I will treasure this one always. Thanks again for the wonderful recipe.

My hubby came home quite late last night and says he needed a batch of brownies for a bake sale in the morning. Needless to say I freaked. All my brownie recipes call for 4 or more eggs. Thankfully, I found this recipe. And to think you make it out of a cake mix. Even better. I thru them together in no time. I of course had to try them before I just gave them to my hubby. Well, I only wrapped up 16, kept the other 8 for myself. He sure wasn't getting the whole batch. Not after I tasted them. Thanks a whole bunch for this time saving recipe. Definately will be making this again, plus will be passing it on to my daughter. She just loves easy brownie and cookie recipes. And this one is right up her alley.
