My favorite family cooking traditions
When we married, I bought a beautiful leather-bound Holiday cookbook to do our first Christmas Turkey. Every year now, whether Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, we record the results of that years tweaking of the recipes. Its a great little reminder of great ideas and disasters of the past.
My cooking triumphs
Just the everyday stuff - when my son cleans his plate and asks for more, that's enough for me.
My cooking tragedies
I love to bake banana bread, but got carried away one year and quadrupled my recipe (thinking I only doubled it). I essentially placed a double recipe in each baking loaf pan, which of course spilled all over the oven, caught on fire, and generally made our house smell awful for weeks. What a mess!

Beef Tips
I found this VERY VERY salty. Next time perhaps I would choose a low-salt beef powder mix and a bit less Worchestershire. Meat was really tender though.

Delicious Raspberry Oatmeal Cookie Bars
I read all the past reviews to get the tips for this one, so I also upped the butter and let it soften before kneading in with my hands. It was still a little crumbly, but it was fun to make with my son. Wish I had had nicer jam on it, it was pretty bland but I buy the cheap jam. :P

Foil Potatoes
I do these all the time on the GRILL. They are great summer fare. Occasionally I add garlic, as well. With the new non-stick foil I can cook them super crispy on the outside without fear of burning. For large groups I also do these in a large aluminum foil pan on the grill. Make sure to seal the foil really really well before flipping though, and two sets of hands help during flipping as well, but it is great for a large party or potluck.
