Mom's Baking Powder Biscuits

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2014
Excellent! I have also used chilled bacon grease I save for pie crusts. I used 1/2 bacon grease and 1/2 Crisco. MMMMM good nice variation. The Biscuit browns much better than when using just butter/margarine to top. It also adds that needed touch of "flavor", that I noticed some reviewers said was the only missing puzzle piece. These were much like the Biscuits that Gram made, using the bacon grease incorporated.

Cowboy Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2014
Amazing! Thank you for sharing this recipe! I have baked recipe as is and WWOW, Wonderful. Then I opted to omit the butterscotch chips and oh wow, wonderful. Then I used a combination of reviews and added a tsp. vanilla, and 3 Cups Oats instead of 2, again WOW! I've since varied again and tried adding another reviewer's variation of adding 1/2 C. firm apples. And WOW again! My last personal variation, I added 1/2 Cup Craisen's and 1/4 Cup finely chopped pecans, and oh wow! All I can say is AMAZING & WOW! Again thanks for sharing. Thanks also to all the reviewer's for all the advice & variation's. My incredible & loving husband of 25 yrs., who (used to be) very picky...Enjoyed every one of these variation's of this recipe. I also thank ALL Recipes.com for being the greatest source to my husbands culinary growth! Being a Southern born Rebble, he lived up to his name rebelling any "New" recipe many years back. Living here in Iowa 25 years now, He is now considered a Generic Yankee by marriage & location. When it comes to the food,..well he says...Just consider me an ALL RECIPE MAN! My Thanks to all of you...for helping me broaden my husbands culinary horizen's!

Apple Strudel Muffins

Reviewed: Mar. 13, 2014
An Absolute Wonderful Muffin! My husband couldn't get enough of them. As in many recipes at first the batter once incorporated completely did seemingly look a lil' stiff. However, I too not being an novice baker kept in mind that once in the oven, the apples in the baking process releases moisture into the muffins. Thus the ending results are moist beautiful muffins. The young lady Ms. SARAH JO that made this recipe and gave such disgruntled review, I would suggest to you whenever you bake w a crumb topping of ANY type,(TIP): a baker should ALWAYS place a pan lined w baking paper under the muffin pan to catch the possible fallen crumb's. IT'S JUST GOOD COMMON BAKING SENSE. no oven to clean!! And my hats off to the lady suggesting adding crumb mixture to the middle of the muffin. Wow! It was another great alternate way off altering the recipe. However, these recipes are written to be made as written, therefore to the bakers that change the recipe and then complain. I am sorry, but that's not even respectful. We should all enjoy, share & be respectful of one another's accomplishments. If you have true concerns, then use the review as a helping tip guide for other's without criticizing your own added changes to other's recipes. AllRecipes.com is kind enough to give us this forum. I thank them so much. And I thank each and every Cook/Baker for sharing all these incredibly wonderful recipes. My Apron is off to all you. God Bless each of you.

Amish White Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2012
Excellent Bread, loved it! Thank you for this awesome recipe. I made it as is and then another batch, I reduced sugar to 1/4 cup, for the diabetics in family. It did lend to be fluffier and not near as sweet or dense as the original recipe. We so enjoyed both ways. I did find that keeping the Temp of room @65* did make a difference. Make sure NO Cool breezes, or windows open near your cooking area, andbe sure not to have the area raising bread above 115* the yeast will die for certain! On second batch I turned oven on for about 3 minutes, turned it off opened door for 2 minutes, placed a pan of very warm water on bottom shelf then placed bread on middle rack to rise. Rose very quickly but evenly and such a smooth even top of loaf was my result. Like this method of rising also. I did find that it makes a big difference when making sure the dough is well oiled when readying to rise first time. Be sure to roll adequately in dish so well oiled all around.
