About this Cook
I got my first cookbook from a dollar store when I was probably 12 or 13. It was black and white like a coloring book. It was all seafood recipes. I would read it and dream of all the fabulous meals I would cook when I grew up. YES! Dreams do come true! Cooking is not a duty or a chore. It is an absolute pleasure. A mindful meditation. A grateful prayer time. How can you not be grateful to God when you are cooking?! You have food!!!! Your family has a delicious AND nutritious meal prepared just for them. You don't have to look at your kids and wonder what or if they will eat tonight! Be GRATEFUL God has supplied you with the ability, tools, and food to feed yourself, your family, and those he sends to you to feed. Cooking is our ministry. Amen! I enjoy gardening. I just pulled my first cucumber yesterday. Late crop. Our first garden together (I's married now!!!). I have a bunch of basil. Will be doing a nutless pesto soon. My soon has allergies to NUTS. Nuts!!!
My favorite things to cook
Pasta. I must have been Italian in a past life!!! But for now I am a chocolate colored Southern belle who loves Italian, Asian, African, Southern and What I Do cooking!! I am just now getting into baking. Tonight I am doing Choc Chip cookies for a former student and Sat. I am doing a Choc Cake for a former student. The requests are coming in! I must embrace the Bakeress in me!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Being a true Southern woman,we do the whole shebang meals when we get together. Catfish, chicken, spaghetti, biscuits, coleslaw, macaroni and cheese, rice and gravy, greens and cornbread and the tip off...Iced tea. I am the official family Mac and Cheese and Greens cook for family gatherings. They like me....they really like me!!!!!
My cooking triumphs
I made my first Sweet Potatoe Pie for my husband this past week (8/2012) and it was great. Yes. I am Southern. No. I don't particularly like Sweet Potatoe Pie myself. No. I am not freaking kidding you! LOL!!!
My cooking tragedies
Anytime I over salt food. I LOVE LOVE LOVE salt. But, I know... I know. I have to use a light hand.
