34 year old grad student in Psychology. You'd think that wouldn't give me much time to cook, but you'd be surprised!
My favorite things to cook
Bread, both yeast and quick breads, particularly sweet ones due to my never-ending sweet tooth. Have never gotten good at cookies, though. Everyone else's chocolate chip cookies taste better than mine. I probably think too much about them.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Christimas cookies, old German traditionals. I love making pfeffernusse each year, but have to hide them every time to let them age properly before I start munching them!
My cooking triumphs
The three tiered wedding cake I offered as a gift to a friend. Truly a triumph - much better than most bakery cakes because it was moister, each layer infused with a liqueur syrup. Yum!!!
My cooking tragedies
Beef consomme that I labored for hours on, only to have it mistaken for "dirty potato water" by my brother cleaning up the dinner dishes. Plus, every batch of chocolate chip cookies I try to make, as indicated above! :)

Basic British Scones
Made exactly as written except with butter rather than margarine. Really not good. Flavorless. Where's the egg? It's needed for lightness. No sweetness - I know scones should not be too sweet so you can put your clotted cream and jam on, but these were awful leaden weights we ended up throwing out to the birds.

Bean Soup With Kale
Followed recipe as listed except used dried oregano in place of italian herbs and added a touch of fresh dill. Also added some pasta at the request of my hubby. This basically tasted like a typical minestrone soup with the addition of kale, so we both liked it.

Delicious Raspberry Oatmeal Cookie Bars
These are very good, but a bit crumbly. I'm wondering if the addition of an egg yolk would get rid of the crumbliness. I've needed to add a bit of cold water when mixing the ingredients because there is not enough moisture. I've used both raspberry and apricot preserves in this recipe. IMHO, the apricot is far superior. Also tried drizzling chocolate on top (on the philosophy that everything is better with chocolate.) Would not recommend this mod.
