Gosh, my dad teaching me how to cook my whole life? He taught me how to tinker with recipes and what each ingredient did, and therefore how you could omit, sub out, or add ingredients. He's the reason most of my reviews start with 'I started with this recipe and then I ...' :)
My cooking tragedies
The Great Choco-'splosion of 2003 - when making flourless chocolate cake, decided to melt the chocolate in a glass bowl, directly on my electric cooktop. Of course the bowl exploded and my kitchen was covered in hot glass & melted chocolate. Oops!

Pasta with Spinach Pesto Sauce
this was great for a weeknight dinner. i scaled the recipe down a bit and eyeballed some proportions, but this was simply easy, healthy and delicious.

Cream of Mushroom Soup II
Growing up on classic canned Cream of Mushroom, I have to say I really like this more mature version. The taste is very good without being too complicated or 'different'. It was not as thick as I would have liked, so I ended up adding an addl Tbsp of dissolved corn starch. Also a splash of dry white wine for good measure.

San Francisco Sourdough Bread
I made this into rolls with a young starter and it was quite good. Can't wait to try again in a few weeks! If anything, this is a great white bread recipe - great bakery texture. The only thing I did differently was add 1T of vital wheat gluten for every cup of flour. This was my first time adding gluten, and it made breadmaking easier for me. I'll be adding it when making bread from now on.
