This sauce recipe makes a great baked pasta (NO STOVE TOP COOKING REQUIRED)! I doubled the sauce recipe using 3 whole onions and food processing the tomatoes to break them down a bit. Then layered the uncooked sauce, dry penne pasta (1lb box total for all layers), sauce, penne, sauce (sprinkling a bit of cheese between layers) in a 9x11 pan. When this recipe is doubled, there is enough sauce to completely cover all the noodles so no go dry. Cooked on 350 for 90 min tightly covered with foil... the pasta was perfectly tender and flavorful. The sauce did all it's cooking unattended in the oven. A great weekday entree.
