I'm a married empty-nester test driving early retirement after 20+ years in private hospice nursing. My husband runs a local golf course and we have 4 grown daughters and 5 dogs of various rescue histories. I've worked pretty hard at losing 35lbs and intend to keep it from finding me again. Even so, my life isn't a dress rehearsal and I'm enjoying it even if it has a calorie or two.
My favorite things to cook
I'm a vegetarian of over two decades but my husband and kids are all omni. I love to create dishes on both sides of the fence but am partial to veggies of all sorts. Baking is a favorite and new breads get me going.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I've lived on the Mexican border all my life and most of my "comfort foods"are based in red or green chile, jalapenos and masa. No chicken soup here - gimme some hot red chile on fried taters and a tortilla and I'm cured.
Garlic and onion? Yes, please!
Asian inspired foods, especially hot & spicy are high on my list of YUM. Chile paste? You bet!
My cooking triumphs
Hmmm. I like to think that most of my attempts are triumphant with a few execptions (see tragedies below) and with those I try it again till I get it right - Just to be a bit*h.
My cooking tragedies
Until finding a recipe for fluffy whole wheat biscuits here I Could Not Bake An Edible Biscuit. Now, soft yummy biscuits are the norm in our house.
