About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I love baking and trying new dishes. I also love doing preserves as well as soups and chili
My favorite family cooking traditions
I make amazing Indian as well as Middle Eastern dishes. Hummus that is over the top delicious and so easy to make!
My cooking triumphs
Cooked a full 4 course meal for over 500 people (with the help of 5 other workers under my gudiance) It was a huge success - and it felt great to get the rave reviews and many requests in the years that followed for my cooking talents.
My cooking tragedies
Many Thanksgivings ago I had planned a Thanksgiving Dinner for two Mormon missionaries. The boys were a long ways from home and I wanted to make sure they felt like they were getting the home style cooking. I actually had prepared everything, especially my excellent gravy. Everything was on the table except the turkey. As I sent the beautiful turkey on the table, the legs just gave out (it was an old wood table with rickety legs to begin with) and EVERYTHING went crashing down to the floor! It was a pure disaster. I just looked on in disbelief and then my daughter and the two young missionaires started laughing. Thank heavens the pie was not on the table. We had pie for dinner...

Terry's Texas Pinto Beans
I've lived in Texas and now in Seattle. No matter what or where you are this is a DELICIOUS and very healthy dish. We actually just ate it with some toast with cheese on top (we call it cheesy toast) and some green salad. Yummy! It really was like a meal in itself. It is affordable if you are trying to make your budget stretch. I always soak my beans over night, and if you want to avoid the gas that beans can cause, while soaking add 1 to 2 Tablespoons of baking soda. Then rinse beans before hand cook. My 1 pound of beans was done in about 40 minutes. Just a thought. Enjoy!

Old Time Popcorn Balls
I am surprised by the 1 star ratings. Like any candy or treat dishes it takes time and patience and a bit of strong arm stirring. Actually considering some dishes I make, this is relatively easy. That being said, they remind me of growing up. We would color them with a drop or two of food coloring for a holiday season. A huge hit! I love popcorn balls... one of my favorite treats.

Breakfast Kolaches
I lived in Houston for some time, and grew to love these delicious meat filled or sweet filled bread. They were so amazing, and it was a staple at any office party or meeting in the AM. For so long I looked high and low, no luck. Saw this recipe and gave it a try - If you are proficient in making bread, no problem. It is important to understand following directions very carefully, and you should be okay. Give them a try, they will become a favorite.
