Fried Cabbage I

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2013
I love this recipe, simple and easy. I like to increase the vinegar by quite a bit, and the sugar a little bit. Maybe 3 Tablespoons each, so it's sweet and tangy.

Cinnamon Rolls III

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2012
These were good, but definitely not what I would consider Cinnabon dupes. The flavor of the dough was really nice, but the frosting wasn't rich or sweet enough, and there definitely wasn't enough richness in the filling either. These would be an ok option for a special breakfast/brunch, but weren't the decadent, once-a-year dessert I hoped they would be (made them instead of birthday cake)

Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2012
The flavor was good, but these spread like crazy. I'm going to try chilling the rest of the batter and baking another batch, but I shouldn't have to figure that out on my own, if the batter needs to be chilled the recipe should state that. I gave 3 stars for good flavored but horribly spread out cookies, and took off another star for ticking me off by omitting the note to chill the batter.

Romanian Apple Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2011
Sorry, didn't care for this. It had no flavor and was way too moist. We love dessert around here but this cake sat around.

Peach Cobbler for Two

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2011
This was excellent! I used a 16 oz bag of frozen peaches and doubled the dough amount as other users suggested. I really really liked the topping, it was almost cookie-ish and not too biscuit-y like some recipes. This made 4 servings the way I prepared it, and I baked it in a pie plate and it was ready in 20 minutes. My frozen peaches weren't very sweet so they could have used more sugar, but I'm sure that varies based on the fruit used. I would add a pinch of cinnamon to the filling next time.

Quick and Almost-Professional Buttercream Icing

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2011
Great, easy recipe. I am not someone who cares for icing/frosting very much but even I like this one! I just needed to frost 9 cupcakes and it was enough to heavily frost with a piping bag with a bit left over. Thanks so much!

Traditional White Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2011
I followed this exactly (using oil instead of lard as it says) and it turned out great! I hadn't made yeast bread by hand in probably a decade and I had no problems with this recipe. The bread out really tasty!

No-Knead Knot Rolls

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2010
I give these 3 stars for taste. They are good, but not amazing and not super yeasty. The texture is kinda fluffy, not as substantial as I was hoping for. They were super easy to make! I might go with a regular knead recipe next time. Also, when you are forming each stick into a knot you might want to roll it in a little flour, otherwise it is too sticky to make a nice knot.

Baklava

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2010
This baklava was amazing! It was delicious and easy to make. I followed some tips found in other reviews, and I also did 2 1/2 times the amount of cinnamon called for and think it was a good amount of cinnamon.

Buffalo Chicken Dip

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2010
This is naughty, delicious goodness! I used 2 poached chicken breasts and subbed light blue cheese dressing for the ranch and shredded mozzarella for the cheddar to save a few calories. This is very good scooped up with Triscuit Parmesan Garlic Thin Crisps.

Pumpkin Swirl Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2010
This bread is delicious! Nice and moist with a good pumpkin flavor. When I make it again I will probably double the spices. I also added chocolate chips and chopped walnuts. ETA: I'm now making this for the second time (a double batch this time, the last one went too quickly!). I don't have any cream cheese so am just making the bread with added walnuts and chocolate chips. I do think the recipe is much better with more spices~I used 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon and 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice (instead of 1/4 tsp nutmeg) and feel that the flavor it better.

Oatmeal Whole Wheat Quick Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2010
I don't think I'll make this recipe again, it was kind of bland. Also, the dough was so wet I had to put it in a loaf pan, it definitely wouldn't stay in shape to put on a baking sheet as instructed.

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies I

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2010
Only 3 stars because they baked up so flat. The taste was pretty good but a little too oily and a little too much "shortening" taste.

The Best Lemon Bars

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2009
Sadly the crust was too thick and the time to cook it was not nearly enough, it made it soft and mushy. The filling was too thin and not strongly flavored. Very disappointing, I'm bummed.

Shrimp Stir-Fry

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2008
I really liked the sauce in this recipe, it "glued" everything together well, but wasn't soupy. I added 1/2 tsp of crushed red pepper and 1 tsp of sesame oil to the sauce. Next time I would up the soy sauce by another tablespoon too. Definitely a keeper!

Maria's Rice

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2007
Yummy! I made this as directed, decreasing the butter to about 2 tablespoons and increasing the rice by about 1/2 cup, also a little water because of the extra rice. I love this so much, in fact I have another batch in the oven right now! What an easy wonderful meal or side dish. I've been eating this with roasted brussel sprouts, I put the sprouts in the oven when I take the foil off the rice.

Easiest Brownies Ever

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2007
These brownies come out way too sugary-sweet and the recipe needs some kind of leavening agent. Nice for a "chocolate emergency" because of so few ingredients, but otherwise wouldn't make them again.

Cranberry Muffins

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2006
These were pretty tasty. I made them lower in fat by subbing 1/3 cup applesauce + 1 T oil. I also used 1 t. orange extract instead of the orange zest, and subbed 1/3 cup brown sugar for the 1/4 cup white sugar because I prefer brown and read they were a little tart. I used 1 cup (dried, soaked, chopped) cranberries + 1/2 cup chopped walnuts. So basically this was a great jumping off recipe for me! ;-)

Blueberry Pigs

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2006
I made a massive mess out of this, and my berries leaked out and burned. My piggie family managed to eat most of it anyway, but I don't think I will attempt again.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Cream Cheese Bars

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2006
These were very easy to make, but not so spectacular. Very dry tasting, and the cream cheese flavor came through as just a hint of sourness instead of a rich cream cheese. I will stick with making a cheese cake next time.
