About this Cook
I am a home cook who enjoys preparing food for my family. I generally make dinner every night and bake once or twice a week depending on if we are having dinner guests or not. I prefer fresh produce and cooking from scratch when possible.
My favorite things to cook
Baking is probably my favorite, probably because it's less stressful than trying to plan a meal to be on the table at a certain time. I do enjoy cooking meals, too. With little ones in the house, I don't tend to make anything overly complicated. I like quick and easy or make ahead!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Last year, we decided to make lasagna, salad, and garlic bread for Christmas dinner. What a huge help! Most everything could be made ahead, nothing was too fussy timewise, and my sister-in-law made a delicious antipasto plate to go with it. It made the day much more enjoyable to have a fuss-free, easy clean-up meal!
My cooking triumphs
I am proud to say that after years of being afraid to deviate from a recipe, I am now more confident to take risks and am often pleased with the results.
My cooking tragedies
I cooked my first two roast chickens upside down. I blamed the first one on pregnancy absent-mindedness, but the second time, that excuse didn't hold up. No wonder my mom prefers to make the Thanksgiving turkey!

Double Chocolate Cherry Muffins
Excellent! I tried the "irresistible chocolate muffins" on this site the day before and did not like them at all. I hesitantly decided to try again with this recipe, and they were wonderful! I did substitute cranberries for the cherries (love that sweet/tart combo!). The almond extract gave a nice flavor dimension as well. I will definitely make these again!

Blonde Brownies I
Yummy, yummy, yummy! Great, quick treat for a group. The only changes I made were to mix in the chocolate chips, and I doubled the recipe and made it in a 9x13 pan because in our house, a 9x9 pan just isn't enough! My new go-to recipe for blondies!

Amish White Bread
Excellent! I cook/bake a lot, but for some reason, baking bread always seemed a bit intimidating. I decided to try this recipe since it was reviewed so highly and seemed to give good, step by step instructions. It was great! I've made it about five times now, and I've stopped buying bread at the store! The only thing I changed was to scale the sugar back to about 4 Tbs.
