About this Cook
Cooking has been a part of my since I was age nine. Mom and Dad taught me a lot. Later my husband and I taught each other.
My favorite things to cook
Pound cake Sweet Potato Pie Pecan Pie smothered chicken chicken noodle soup butternut squash soup smothered pork chop w/homemade apple sauce sweet potato w/pineapple casserole Fresh fried corn
My favorite family cooking traditions
Our family tradition is whenevery we cook we cook fresh. Onions and garlic is a main ingredient in most dishes we prepare. Our vegetable are cooked fresh and frozen for each holiday that comes (collard greens, green beans, fresh corn etc.) Pies and cakes are baked and frozen as well.
My cooking triumphs
Thanksgiving dinner has been my best meals prepared for my family. I start months in advance, shopping, cutting of the fresh veggies, onion, garlic, green, red and yellow bell peppers, celery-corn bread baked and frozen-it is the biggest get together and lots of preparation-it all worth it.
My cooking tragedies
I once made peppered steak and rice for my husband, the way Mama taught me-well compared to his version of this dish my dish was the total pits= and he didn't hold back telling me. Making this dish out of round steak vs flank steak -Well there is no comparing the flank steak is the best way to go. My mom taught me to make it with round steak because there was eleven of us to feed. It was good then when you didn't know anything else.
