In a word - YUCK! I would not feed this to my dog. Took about 3 bites and then dumped it. After reading all the positive reviews I had expectations that this would be really good - It wasn't. It took a long time to make and it was Soooo not worth it. The main dish was bland and tasteless. The chick pea marinade was just plain weird and seemed totally out of place with the rice / pasta. I normally don't write bad reviews but I'm trying to save someone else the trouble of making this awful dish.

Chef John's Caramel Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2013
This was fabulous. I made very minor changes - increased soy sauce to equal fish sauce - used seeded Serrano peppers rather than jalapeno (personal preference) - skipped cilantro and substituted with uncooked sliced scallions - addition - boiled broccoli for 2 - 3 minutes, drained and mixed in the sauce last minute or so. I also tried different nuts - cashews were good and toasted pecans were wonderful. Finally I did use cubes of chicken breast one time - I preferred that but hubby preferred the thighs. I always say I hate people that change the recipe and then rate based on changes but I feel my changes were minor and the "spirit of the recipe" was not changed. This has become one of our favorite meals.

Pecan Pie V

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2012
OMG is this good! Because I had a deep dish pie shell I increased everything by 1/3. I was a little short on pecans so substituted 1/3 cup walnuts that I mixed with the liquid mixture. After pouring this into pie plate I then placed pecans on top. This way they did not "sink" into the mixture as one reviewer mentioned as a problem. I did cut out the white sugar because I don't like it overly sweet. Although I increased all other ingredients by 1/3 I kept the butter (1/2 cup) the same. Decided to make this last minute on Thanksgiving and it was quick, easy and yummy. Restaurant quality for sure!

Glazed Meatloaf II

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2012
Read all the reviews and based on them and the meatloaf recipe I have been using for years I created the best meatloaf me or my husband ever tasted. Cut the recipe in half since just the two of us. Used ground pork instead of beef. Modified version used 1 tablespoon brown sugar in glaze, 1 teaspoon lemon and I added 1 tablespoon A1 steak sauce. Omitted beef bouillon and lemon juice in meat portion. Grated frozen bread rather than shred. Added 1 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce, 1 clove garlic pressed, about 2 or 3 skinless baby carrots chopped finely, about 1/4 both green and red bell peppers, diced and salt and pepper. Also sprayed baking dish with PAM before placing meat mixture in there. It turned out incredible! Hubby who most of the time says he doesn't care what we eat was in awe of this dish. By the way, had no problem with excess fat - there wasn't any - maybe ground pork made the difference.
