Grandma Ople's Apple Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2012
This is an OMG recipe for sure. It was my first time baking an apple pie and I even did a faux lattice crust - Pillsbury roll out crust of course. Zero leftovers of this dessert I made for Christmas. All were impressed. I did the modifications suggested by the top reviewer as well. Very nice looking too!

Great recipe! Thanks for sharing this. Something different than the usual black beans and rice, so we were very pleased.

Spanish Rice Bake

Fantastic!! Wouldn't change a thing unless you don't like it too spicy then you may lessen the chili sauce. Great recipe and there were no leftovers. My five year old is picky and gobbled it up (after I removed the tomatos). Thank you!

Giblet Gravy I

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2011
I've made this every year since 2003 and it's just like my mom always made. This year I just noticed the reviews and will try making the roux with just a 1/4 cup butter + 1/4 cup flour until browned, then stir in the broth so the thickness can increase- it is usually a bit thin but noone mentions it. Love, love this!

Too Much Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 24, 2009
Pretty good for a box cake recipe. I prefer the moistness of a homemade variety but this was good and a big time-saver sin c I had two birthday cakes. I also used the satiny glaze recipe on this bundt cake.

Buttercream Icing

This is my favorite frosting recipe ever and I've made it on every cake for 3 years. I add about a 1/2 cup less powder sugar for my favorite Hersheys Perfectly Chocolate, chocolate cake. Yum :)

Homestyle Turkey, the Michigander Way

Reviewed: May 26, 2009
I made this for two Christmas' in a row and it's perfect. My 12-13 pound turkeys cook faster, so I had to fix the time last year so I'd have a presentation turkey :) I use the low-sodium broth and no salt on the bird. The butter makes the breast so succulent and I never liked the white meat before this.

Awesome recipe and so easy. Great for freezing in small portions to serve with lightly cooked corn tortillas. My husband thought he was in El Paso again :) Will make over and over as is.

Ronaldo's Beef Carnitas

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2008
Absolutley wonderful. I did increase the spice and peppers since we have a spicer taste preference. Also cooked it in the crock pot about 6 hours on low with foil placed snugly on top. Great with fresh flour tortillas! Thanks for sharing.

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2007
Good basic recipe and quick. I've had much better, but for the ease of the recipe, its very good. The dumplings are MUCH better if you use the Pillsbury refrigerated pie crust (NOT FROZEN- its by the can biscuits) as the dumplings - instead of the bisquits. The bisquits are good, but this crust used for dumplings makes this recipe even better. It's all I use for pies too - you'll thank me if you use frozen pie crust. I did have to add more water at the end. It got pretty sticky. Better the 2nd day too. Thanks for sharing!
