I have made this several times, although I make it on the stovetop instead of the slow cooker. I don't like chunks of tomato so I use a can of crushed tomatoes instead of the mashed whole peeled tomatoes. I combine all of the ingrediates and cook on the stove for approx 30-45 minutes. The tortilla strips are very good with the soup (a pizza cutter is easy to use for cutting the strips.) When I haven't had time to make my own, I have used hearty (thick) bagged tortilla chips, which work well also.
