Dark Chocolate Cake I

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2008
Fantastic! A dark but airy chocolate cake that tastes delicious. I followed the recipe but also did as one reviewer suggested and separated the eggs, whipping the whiites separately with some of the sugar. In a large Bundt pan the recipe took over an hour to cook, but came out lovely for a birthday cake. Thanks for the recipe!

Baked Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2007
Wonderful update on boring old mashed potatoes. The cream cheese makes for a nice subtle cheesy flavor, and the baking gives the dish a lovely crisp top. Thanks for the recipe!

Cranberry, Sausage and Apple Stuffing

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2007
I made this for a bunch of people, even though I don't like stuffing myself. I substituted onions for leeks and left out the celery. I liked the colorful look of the finished product, and my eaters said it was a moist stuffing even without extra broth. Do not serve if you like a drier stuffing.

Green Beans with Cherry Tomatoes

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2007
I love this side dish- easy to make, flavorful, and pretty to look at. I made it for xmas dinner but it really is a summery salad.

Slow Cooker Turkey Breast

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2007
I give this a mixed review because I think it requires butter, which the recipe does not stipulate. Otherwise, the turkey would be very very dry. Also, if you are using a boneless turkey breast, I recommend slicing the breast lengthwise as soon as possible to make for more tender pieces. If you follow this recipe as is, you will have a dry bird. A key component of slow cooking is plenty of liquid. I highly recommend following the suggestions offered below by other reviewers to generate more of it.

Ladyfinger Trifle

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2007
I loved this dessert, it was easy to make, with inexpensive ingredients, and not too rich after a big xmas dinner. Next time I would not slice the ladyfingers going around the trifle dish because they sagged sideways.

Updated Mulled Cider

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2007
I followed the recipe to the letter and I enjoyed the taste. Next time I will add more cinnamon, though, because the apple flavor was pretty dominant.

Easy Italian Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2007
Really quite good. I used chicken drumsticks and substituted chili flakes for the red pepper powder for added punch. Though I could not wait for the water to evaporate completely, the chicken still had a good flavor. I would use this recipe again.

Squash Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2007
I made these with butternut squash and left out the nuts. These have a nice flavor and texture, with the consistency of muffin tops as other have mentioned. The next time I make them I will likely double the spices because I found the spiciness fairly mild.

Easy Biscuit Mixture

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2007
Used this as a base for cheddar biscuits, which turned out great. Not sure which recipe to praise, so both get five stars. Biscuits came out light and tasty.

Cheese Biscuits I

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2007
These biscuits are light and tasty, and are versatile enough to go well with many sauces. The butter was a lovely touch too, though perhaps a little too parsley-heavy.

Honey Curried Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2007
Yummy! I don't like mushrooms so I threw in apples, which was interesting. Kind of like apple pie but spicier. My husband thought it was weird. But the chicken and the sauce were good, especially with biscuits to dip as suggested.

Basil Shrimp

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2007
This recipe did make for a nice flavor but the shrimp ended up somewhat dry. I wonder if perhaps using the marinade to baste would help make them moist.

Garlic Shrimp Pasta

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2007
Even when I added flavor by including tomatoes, spinach, basil, oregano, and pepper, this was still only somewhat tasty. Not too sure what else you could add without making this into another recipe.

Best Ever Pie Crust

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2007
Like other reviewers this was my first attempt at pie crust. Besides some problems stemming from my lack of a rolling pin, this turned out fabulously. It actually tastes quite nice (I don't really like pie crust) and is basically idiot-proof. I would follow the suggestion of chilling all tools before beginning, it made everything easier.

Greasy Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2007
I wanted to make something faster than baked chicken, so I did this. As other reviewers mentioned, the recipe did not specific whether to use the marinade, so I did not. I found the burnt flavor a little off-putting, and there wasn't much else in the ways of flavor, so I would rank this as "alright".

Mustard Crusted Tilapia

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2007
Yumm this was good. I used regular mustard and HP Sauce instead of worcestire, and the flavor was still rich. My only suggestion is to double the recipe, even for 2 fillets. I had troubled spreading what there was.

Just bleh- not much taste. I know plenty of four-ingredient recipes that beat this recipe hands-down. Don't bother with it.

Maple Salmon

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2007
I had never cooked with maple syrup before but was convinced by the reviews. I followed the recipe precisely, and found that the flavor of the salmon was subtle, but the remaining sauce was a nice dip. I also recommend cooking the last 5 minutes uncovered- the fish was initially cold.
