creamed onions on liver

When I was a kid, it was common to have creamed onions on liver.  The creamed onion was made of 2 large onions cut in quarters, browned in lots of butter, then flour and milk were added until a nice thick sauce was made.  Of course, salt and pepper to taste.  I remember it was delicious on liver, but I can't find any recipes for it.  I was thinking that perhaps I could get some ideas to make it even better, but no luck.  Is this so old fashioned that no one makes it any longer?  I did find creamed pearl onions, creamed onions and peas (a complete side dish that does look really good) but none that call for as a sauce to be served on liver.  Anyone heard of this before.  I don't think my mom made this since I was about 10 years old, which would be 43 years ago.  This is what I'm making tonight for supper.

I always hated beef liver when I was a Kid. as an adult I refuse to eat it. Now give me a pound of chicken or turkey livers they will be gone in 15 min.

This sounds delish! My mom used to sautee the onions and a lot of times she would add bacon to get us to eat it, but we all love liver now and I am going to try this recipe. I haven't heard of it before.

I don't know how to comment on your corned beef question about the spice packet so I am doing it here. It doesn't say what is in the packet, but there is mostly mustard seed, it looks like some whole fennel and coriander(not positive on this), whole black pepper corns, some red flakes that are kind of bitter tasting(paprika?, not sure) and that is about all I could identify. I hope that helps some.
