This is a very good and filling casserole. I made the following alterations: I sliced french bread into inch thick slices,placed that on the bottom of a casserole dish, filled in any "holes" with more of the bread so that there was a single layer of the bread, then spread the cream cheese mixture over that and put the meatball/sauce mixture, (I did not add any water to this dish.) The bottom was nicely baked, not soggy and the filling was done just right. My husband LOVED this dish, I liked too but am not as big of a fan of "comfort food" as he is but if you are this is a fabulous dish for you. :)
