I first followed the recipe exactly and thought the basil was way overpowering and the hot sauce addition wasn't very good. My husband puts hot sauce on EVERYTHING and he even said it wasn't needed. The second time making it, I made some adjustments - I only put in 1/2 the basil, left out the hotsauce, substituted half the cream with 2% milk and added 2 tbs. of sour cream. I also added about a cup of shredded cheddar to the soup and saved the rest of the cheese and bacon for garnish. The second time was PERFECT!!!!! I doubled the batch for 4 people and there were no leftovers!
