Sugar Glazed Walnuts

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2007
I'm sure this recipe has great potential, but as written I ended up with a smoke-filled house and a black mess in the microwave that smelled horrible. I checked the nuts every 2 minutes - after 4 they didn't seem carmelized at all, but at the 6 minute stage it was already WAY to late. I can't imagine anyone needing to microwave these anywhere near the 8 minutes.

Austrian Peach Cookie

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2006
I LOVE this recipe - for presentation alone it deserves 5 stars! You can see in the picture I submitted that I used gumdrop slices and almond slivers for the leaves and stems. There is a similar recipe on this site that uses butter instead of oil, but I find the butter makes the cookie halves spread too much - I like to use a combination of both. Neither of the fillings are very appetizing to me, so I've been using a chocolate ganache to fill these (2 parts chocolate to 1 part heavy cream). I find this recipe to be a LOT of work - but I really like it for special occasions.

Asian Chicken Salad

Reviewed: May 27, 2006
I love this recipe as is... but a previous reviewer made this even better for me. Use white sugar instead of brown, omit the soy sauce, and add a pinch of cilantro to the dresssing. This gives you something very, very close to the Asian Sesame Chicken salad at Panera / St. Louis Bread Company... so good! Whether following the recipe as is or with these changes, I always cut the vegetable oil at least in half and I prefer to use wonton strips that I've crisped up in the oven instead of the noodles.

Chocolate Cornstarch Pudding

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2005
Yum, yum, yum! Followed recipe exactly and it came out perfect! I'm a huge fan already of the cook and serve boxed version, but I think I like this even better... you don't get that chemical aftertaste. I make a double batch to pour over cake for scrumptious pudding poke cake. Thank you so much for this recipe!

Gooey Bars

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2005
Yum, yum, yum! Rave review on this all around. I only used 2 c powdered sugar as suggested by others and it came out so perfect! You can just barely tell it's cream cheese on top... it's just yummy decadence in my book, especially for being such an easy bar-type cookie. These cut just perfect for me after an hour or two in the refrigerator... definitely can't cut while warm at all though unless you don't care whether or not they cut 'cleanly'.

Creamy Italian Dressing I

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2004
Scrumptious! I've served this at several dinner parties now and this always gets rave reviews. The consistency is perfect when I use regular mayo, but when using reduced fat I have to thin it out a bit. Make sure the onion you use is small, or consider using only a quarter and taste it before adding any more. Whips up so easily with my stick blender... fabulous recipe!

Chocolate Covered Cherries

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2004
These are better than store bought and suprisingly easy to make. I was worried about using to much of the sugar dough and was probably too skimpy. I'd be sure to use the full teaspoon next time. After 3 or 4 days, they were already nice and creamy. I think next time I might also try adding a bit of paraffin to the chocolate coating... they seemed to lose their lustre within the first week.

Caribbean Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2004
Yummy recipe! Even my not-so-crazy-about-salad husband enjoyed this. The salsa is delicious (and might I say addictive) by itself! I wouldn't change a thing!

Jay's Signature Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2004
The texture of this pizza crust is very good and was my favorite until I tried Ricardo's from this site (it's the best I've ever had). I'd say this definitely makes 2 large crusts though... I like thick crust, but good grief!

Wonderful Margaritas

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2004
Fabulous recipe... super easy and always a hit! I like this as is, but it's also great after 20 minutes or so in my ice cream maker for frozen margaritas. I've even added a touch of triple sec for those that insist a margarita is not complete without it.

Cranberry Orange Loaf

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2004
This seems to be a winner with everyone that has tasted it! I use 2T of butter and 2T of applesauce, and reduce the sugar closer to 3/4 cup just to make it a bit healthier. I also always make this in mini-loaf pans... they're beautiful (but don't forget to grease AND flour the pans like the recipe says). The directions don't mention it, but I'd reccommend chopping the cranberries in half at least... I do this on the cutting board, but I'm sure a food processor would be much faster (and safer!).

Bill's Sausage Gravy

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2004
I don't usually care for gravy, but even I think this is good! If you're patient enough to cook it long enough and generous with the flour, I've found you can even cut down on the butter/milk ratio a bit without compromising the taste or texture.

BLT Dip

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2004
After all the rave reviews, I was really excited to try this recipe. I followed the recipe exactly, but thought it was awfully bland... and I'm a huge BLT fan!

Whole Wheat Bread III

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2004
This is our new favorite bread recipe (and we eat a lot of bread!). I have a bread machine but still make this into 8 mini-loaves or 12 muffins and it works great. The cornmeal adds wonderful texture... even though I used applesauce instead of fat. I serve this at dinner parties and everyone loves it!

Peanut Noodles

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2004
Yummy recipe... I used homeade fettucine noodles. As another reviewed noted, very similar to one of my fave dishes at a popular restaurant. They also serve it with julienned carrots and bean sprouts which I think would be a nice addition for next time.

Taco Cornbread Pizza

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2003
As other reviewers suggested, I added a layer of refried beans... also used half of a from-scratch cornbread recipe instead of from a box, so maybe mine was not too sweet as others mentioned. We thought this was yummy!

Cream Cheese Penguins

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2003
Incredibly cute! I added a dash of worchestire and a tsp or two or garlic powder to the cream cheese to enhance the flavor a bit. Such a hit around the holidays!
