My favorite things to cook
I love barbecuing and grilling in the summer, and cooking hearty feel good meals in the winter. My favorite foods to cook are southern, down by the bayou kinds of meat. I love trying new and exotic meats and seafood. I'm a scratch cook. I hate taking the easy road and make all of my own rubs, marinades and sauces. I also love making my own seasonings. I love spicy food. I make my own hot sauces and love trying new peppers or experimenting with familiar ones like habanero and jalapeno. Winter is good for homemade feel good meals. Roasted chickens and turkeys, slow cooked chili and various casseroles and meat pies are staples in our house.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners are a big deal in our home. From roasting the turkey to homemade stuffing we spend days in advance prepping and developing the perfect meal. We also do a family Sunday dinner each week full of good food, good wine and great conversation.
My cooking triumphs
My barbecuing and grilling is second to none. From ribs and steaks to fish and exotic game we spend just about every summer day eating outside and using the grill. Weekdays are quick grilling but the weekends are where I spend a full day outside barbecuing dinner.
My cooking tragedies
Baking. I can't do it. According to our local fire department it's something I require adult supervision for. From cookies to pies and cakes, I can't seem to ever get it right.
