Barbequed Steelhead Trout

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2014
Who knew?! I've never thought to put bbq sauce on fish, but we all (husband, 12 year old son, and I) enjoyed it very much. This was our first time trying steelhead trout, and it is just like salmon but milder. The only changes I made were to add a little minced garlic and liquid smoke (since I didn't have a cedar plank, which is how I usually cook fish). I may have used a tad less cayenne too to ensure my son could handle it. It wasn't spicy at all so I'd add the full amount next time. I will definitely make this again and would probably score the fish and push the butter sauce into it and cook just a minute or two less. Thank you for a new grilled fish experience!

The World's Greatest Crab Recipe

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2013
Followed the instructions and incorporated other users' suggestions and cracked the shells a little before grilling, added old bay seasoning, and lowered the heat a little (more like med/med-high). These were awesome! My husband wasn't convinced that the oil/butter/garlic was really going to get through the shell to the meat, but it sure did and it was delicious!

Portobello Mushroom Burger With Bruschetta Topping

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2013
I recently quit eating meat, and this really satisfied my burger craving. It was delicious! Even my carnivore husband enjoyed it, although (like another reviewer's husband) he said it would have been even better on top of a beef burger! I only made slight changes, omitting the garlic, adding a little roasted red pepper, and using diced fresh mozzarella in the bruschetta in lieu of either of the other cheeses. The grilling time might be too long as posted, so just watch it depending on your grill. I cooked it less time, and it came out perfect!

Homemade Pizza Sauce

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2012
This was an excellent and easy basic pizza sauce, and will likely be my family's go-to sauce! This could easily be a 5-star by adding some fresh ingredients to it-- chopped tomatoes, onions, and fresh basil-- if you have time and have them on hand. Otherwise, it's delicious as is.

Cheesy Tuna Melts

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2012
Really good, especially considering I'm not a big tuna fan. The only changes I made were to add a little red onion and black pepper, and I used mozzarella instead of cheddar.

Scallop Scampi

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2012
This was very good and pretty simple, and my whole family (including very picky 10-year old) liked it. I used another reviewers recommendation to sautee the onion/garlic then add the scallops and sautee them for several minutes, remove the scallops then add the rest of the ingredients to boil the sauce, adding the scallops back in at the end. I think this method helped keep the scallops tender. Otherwise, I followed the recipe and ingredients exactly. This was a good basic recipe, and I'll probably doctor it up a little more next time, possibly artichokes and shallots, and maybe a little crushed red pepper . Thanks!

Awesome Baked Sea Scallops

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2012
This was the first recipe I ever used for scallops, several years ago, and have made it again several times since. My whole family loves this recipe and this is what got us hooked on scallops.

Family-Style French Toast

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2012
Used challah bread but otherwise followed recipe. Soaked a couple of pieces for a minute or two, but just dipped the rest of them. The ones that I soaked came out too wet and mushy, so if using challah or similar bread, I would just dip. I flipped over at the end and cooked a little longer. The taste was very good!

California Grilled Veggie Sandwich

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2012
Love, love, love this recipe! My only changes were to use hoagie rolls and mozzarella cheese, just out of family preference. I also added balsamic vinegar to the veggies. I've made them twice now, and my whole family (including my incredibly picky 10-year old) likes them. The second time, my husband added leftover chicken parm and marinara sauce to his, my older son added chipotle gouda and buffalo chicken strips, and I added a little pesto sauce. We all still used the mayo/garlic/lemon spread on the bread, which is really tasty. It's a very versatile recipe which I plan to make often. Thank you!

Savory Pork Chops

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2012
These were pretty good. My husband and I liked them, but my kids not so much. I think they would have liked them more if they didn't know what was in them. The idea of a sauce made of ketchup, mustard, soy, and onions didn't sound so appealing. If I make them again, I might just emphasizie the orange marmalade! The chops themselves came out very moist and good, but I did simmer them longer than called for in the recipe in order to achieve that tenderness.

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2012
I agree that this is the best lasagna I've ever made. I followed other reviewers' suggestion to soak the noodles in hot water rather than boiling and it works perfectly. The sauce from this recipe has become my go-to sauce for any dish requiring a meat sauce. Thanks!

Tomato Chops I

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2012
Most of us aren't big fans of pork chops so we were looking for some way to disguise them and this recipe sounded like a winner. My 16-year old son made this for dinner tonight, and they came out delicious. He followed the recipe exactly, adding just a little garlic powder and crushed red pepper to the sauce. We were all chewing the meat off the bone; that's how good they were! The sauce was really good too and we saved the leftover to put on something else tomorrow. Thanks!

Braised Balsamic Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2012
I followed the recipe just about exactly, using seasoned diced tomatoes and italian sesoning (instead of the individual dried herbs). This was delicious! My family, including me, usually just tolerates chicken (and my 10-year old will usually only eat if it's breaded). My 10-year old ate it without a single complaint (which says a lot), and the rest of us truly enjoyed it! So easy and healthy and delicious. This is a keeper. Thank you!

Holiday Cranberry Chutney

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2011
This was delicious and super-easy! I followed the recipe exactly that I used 3 tsp of pumpkin pie spice instead of the individual spices, and I added a little orange peel. It is delicious warm or cold with cream cheese and crackers. I am also going to try putting it on top of some brie, sprinkle some pecans on top and warm it up to serve with crackers or crostini. Yum!

No-Noodle Zucchini Lasagna

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2011
I made this tonight, following the basic recipe but substituting my "go to" homemade sauce (from the World's Best Pasta Sauce" recipe on this site but eliminated the water for this recipe). I used 3 zucchinis, the first two I brushed with egg and coated in Italian-seasoned panko and sauteed in a little EVOO. It wasn't enough since I wanted a third layer, so I just used the 3rd zucchini/layer raw without salting but I sprinkled some panko over that layer to absorb some of the liquid as it cooked. I didn't use the other veggies out of family preference. It was not the least bit liquidy, likely due to some combination of the thick sauce and the breadcrumbs. The two different textures of zucchini was good (the raw stayed firmer than the pre-cooked) but I think it could go either way. All in all, all 4 of us loved this and I will definitely make it again. (My 16-year old who was very opposed to the idea of lasagna without noodles said he didn't miss the pasta at all and went for seconds)!

World's Best Pasta Sauce!

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2011
This is my "go to" sauce! I discovered it and first used it in the World's Best Lasagna recipe, and have since been making the sauce for call my pasta dishes and made it again today for a Zucchini Parmesan recipe. I mix/match fresh and dried herbs depending on what I have in stock but otherwise follow the recipe exactly. This sauce is delicious!

Chocolate Strawberries

Awesome and so simple (great on bananas, peaches, and apples too)! Used semi-sweet chips and microwaved them in 30 second increments until melted. I will never do this any other way!

Candied Garlic Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2010
These were awesome! I didn't measure much, prob used a little less honey, used about 4 TBS low sodium soy, 1 tsp minced garlic from jar, a little cider vinegar. brought to boil then poured over wings and put in fridge (prob for less than 2 hrs). Otherwise followed this recipe, and they were a hit with my whole family. I can't wait to make them again! Thanks for the recipe!

The Best Steak Marinade

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2010
This is an awesome marinade for any steak. I always add a little brown sugar too just because I like the sweetness, and I use a little less soy, just for personal preference. This has become my go-to marinade. Thanks!
