About this Cook
I'm 16;and I've been cooking/baking for most of my life, starting by me helping my dad make pancakes at the age of 3.:)
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook pretty much everything, except for really ethnic foods like chinese, asian, etc. I love mexican stuff;and have experimented with different fajitas etc.I love things spicy;but with a family of 7 youger kids;I have to control myself, lol! I make alot of the meals at our house;and I enjoy trying to find healthy quick recipes that kids will like,as well as my meat and potatoes dad! I also bake a batch of bread by hand every week;which is lots of fun,but takes a while as each batch makes 8 loaves. My brother calls it real Canadian bread and they all love it!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Well, usually I make a big Christmas breakfast;and I love making birthday meals too;as well as all the birthday cakes! We have quite a few potlucks and family dinners throughout the year, and I love being counted as one of the "women" asked to bring something.
My cooking triumphs
Well,I made two peach pies(a recipe off this site actaully)once when we were having company;and my dad and the other dad each had a half of one pie! I've made several Christmas baskets with goodies in them that people thought were amazing and a couple years ago,I made an entire meal and dessert for 17 people by myself;which turned out really well, and I was so happy!:)
My cooking tragedies
Well,I almost set a pot of brown sugar mixture on fire cause I had the wrong proportions of sugar to butter;it was smoking like crazy and there was a haze in the kitchen for quite a long time!:) Umm,oh,and I burned two bags of chocolate chips twice(right after the other)in the microwave of all things! My mom wasn't too happy to have to run out and get more, lol! I've had alot more;but those are probably the worst ones!:)

Grandma's Secret Pie Crust
This is the perfect pie crust recipe!I'm 15 and love baking, but I always hated making pies because my crusts were always hard to work with and didn't turn out very good.I used this recipe last night and it was PERFECT!Easy to handle,no holes and very flaky when baked. This is now my permanent pie crust recipe. Thanks for sharing it!

Carrot Cake II
This is now my permanent carrot cake recipe.I love carrot cake but hardly ever made it because it was so high in fat with all that oil.Now I can "have my cake and eat it too";and not feel guilty. My dad absolutely loved it;he said it was even better than the Costco carrot cake.(which is amazing because in our house you can't get better than Costco carrot cake.(up until now that is)I will definately be making this again and again; My family asked for seconds and thirds and with a cream cheese icing and sprinkles it makes a great birthday cake.

Chili con Carne I
This is now going to be my permanent favorite(and only)chili recipe. It turned out exactly the way I hoped it would. Most of my family cleaned their bowls and asked for more. The little kids weren't to keen on it,but they ate it.Next time I'll reduce the chili powder as they found it a bit spicy. The rest of my family agreed it was just perfect, though.I made a few changes;I added some frozen corn and used navy beans instead of pinto beans,as my family isn't crazy on the big ones. All in all,a great recipe!
