Smoky Cheese Spread

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2004
I thought this recipe was just ok. I didn't really taste the smoky flavor. The Cream Cheese and Ham Spread recipe had a stronger flavor. I may try combining these two recipes.

Cream Cheese and Ham Spread

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2004
This is a pretty good spread for such an easy recipe. It definitely has more flavor after refrigeration overnight.

Barbeque Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2004
Yummy! I didn't change much, just added another tablespoon of brown sugar and ketchup and held back on the chili powder. I used boneless, skinless chicken thighs and removed as much fat as possible. It was very tender and tasty. The sauce is runny, but that keeps the chicken from getting dry.

White Chili with Ground Turkey

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2004
This was tastier than I thought and was very easy. Since I didn't have the beans, I substituted the beans with cooked rice as another reviewer suggested. I also put about 3 cups of chicken broth instead of 5. The combination of spices smelled and tasted good!

Chicken Enchiladas I

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2004
We didn't really like the taste much; we have quite a bit left over. We followed some of the reviewers' suggestions, 8 oz tomato sauce and little water. I used enchilada sauce instead of taco sauce. I agree with another reviewer that there was too much sour cream.

Bubble 'n' Squeak

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2004
Not bad; my husband liked it. It's simple, but a lot of chopping is required. It's best to have everything chopped up first before putting it together. I added more bacon slices, around 5.

Baked French Fries I

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2004
It was so-so. I didn't love the blend of spices, but I ate them. I baked them in a toaster oven for about 25 minutes at 350 degrees F. I cut them into long pieces (like you would find at fast food places) instead of wedges.

Talerine

Reviewed: Feb. 29, 2004
My family liked this dish and it was pretty simple to make. I cut down on the salt and pepper, added some black olives, and took out the corn. I followed some reviewer's suggestion to cook the noodles separately so as to keep much of the sauce.

Pizza Sauce II

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2004
This is pretty good recipe; needing only a few ingredients. I didn't use it for pizza this time, but will try it some day. I used it for the Pizza Casserole recipe here. I cut this recipe in half for it.

Pizza Casserole

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2004
This is a very versatile and relatively easy recipe. I used the Pizza Sauce II recipe for the pizza sauce (halved that recipe). My husband is a pizza lover, so he loved this. I like pizza occassionally and this wasn't bad, but it was a bit strong for me. I'll probably modify it so that it isn't quite so strong-tasting.

Kung Pao Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2004
I doubled the sauce and it was still not enough. My husband liked the nuts with the chicken. He mentioned that it's a great low-carb dish. We thought it wasn't bad, but not great. If I make it again, I will use less corn starch.

Chinese Pork Buns (Cha Siu Bao)

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2004
I only made the bun portion of this recipe. I tried it twice and both times the dough came out crumbly and dry. The buns turned out so-so, not very moist and kind of dense. I had much better results with the Chinese Steamed Buns recipe which required more steps. I will not be using this recipe again.

Hearty Meatball Soup I

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2004
I thought this soup was ok and I liked it the best out of my family. I realized after eating this that we're just not that into meatball soup. But it's not a bad recipe, just didn't excite us.

Marchetti

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2004
I made a lot of substitutions, depending on what I had on hand. I used 1 lb of ground turkey, 8 oz tomato sauce in place of tomato soup, sharp cheddar cheese instead of american, and no mushrooms. I thought it was quite good and easy. 1 lb. seemed enough meat for us. I will keep this recipe.

Easy Shake and Bake Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2004
I also used skinless, boneless chicken breasts. I didn't have sage, so I used oregano instead. It was still very good and easy. I think I will cut down the butter next time though.

Roast Sticky Chicken-Rotisserie Style

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2004
For all the ingredients and preparation, I thought it wasn't as good as I hoped. However, the chicken was VERY tender, just not that flavorful. With less ingredients and no marinating, I liked the Simply Lemon Baked Chicken just as much.

Simply Lemon Baked Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2004
It was fairly tender even though I didn't baste as often as I wanted. The taste was pretty good, especially for so few ingredients and without marinating. I will keep this recipe.

Easier Chicken Marsala

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2004
I'm not a big fan of chicken marsala, but my husband is (I don't really like the wine taste/smell). I tried this and my family liked it. The chicken is tender and it was pretty easy to make. I didn't have marsala wine, so I substituted with Chinese rice wine which is like a dry sherry. I also did as other reviewers suggested, doubled the wine, plus I added 3/4 cup of chicken broth. I simmered longer as well. To thicken the sauce, I added a cornstarch slurry. Next time I think I'll use less wine and more broth (as a compromise between me & my husband ;-)).

Groovie Smoothie

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2004
This a fairly good and easy smoothie to make. It does taste yogurt-y which is a slight detraction. Sometimes I substitute the vanilla yogurt with vanilla ice cream depending on my mood. It isn't as healthy, but it's a lot more yummy.

Hong Kong Style Egg Tarts

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2004
I'm a novice cook, so maybe I did this recipe wrong (that's why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1). But it turned out terrible for me. The dough was hard and kept cracking. I had to make the tart thicker so that it wouldn't fall apart. But it did anyways during baking (what a mess!). There was way too much egg mixture too.
