Southern Green Beans

Reviewed: Mar. 31, 2013
I didn't think this had much flavor. I added a little extra bacon and even cooked the onions in leftover bacon grease instead of the butter just to add a little more flavor. I used frozen green beans because I didn't have fresh, which worked fine, but the potatoes took forever to cook and I had to add more chicken broth because it cooked up before the potatoes were done. I timed my meal so that this was the last thing to be ready, but it took so much longer than the recipe suggested, we ate the rest of the meal without this on the table. I finished it afterwards. I cut the potatoes up very small, so I'm not sure what happened? Don't know if I will try this one again, but thank you for sharing!

Lemon Glazed Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 31, 2013
This cake was so-so. I made it with the pudding and used the bundt cake pan and it was a little dry. The glaze was horrible! It was like pouring water all over my cake, it was so runny and I even omitted the water. I made a new batch of glaze, added 2 1/12 to 2 3/4 cup powdered sugar to the batch, a few drops of yellow food coloring and then poured it back and forth over the top of my cake. The glaze turned out wonderful the 2nd time! Not sure I would make this one again, but thank you for sharing!

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2012
**For me, 8 apples are too many and I had some left over that I couldn't fit in the pie, so next time I'll use about 5 or 6. This is what I added to mine: 3/4 cup both white and brown sugar, 1 tsp vanilla, 1 T cornstarch, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/8 tsp nutmeg. I also used the Pillsbury refridgerated pie crust dough, which worked wonderfully and saved time. I used one crust for the pie and the other for the lattice. I followed the recipe and poured the sugar and butter mixture over the top of the pie and it made a crispy, caramelized crust on top that was just amazing! It was slightly watery when it was first cut, but thickened up over time. I'm not surprised this pie won a 1st place ribbon!!!

Gourmet Sweet Potato Classic

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2012
Totally Delish! I used 2, 40oz sized and 1 regular sized can of Bruce's yams (drained) and cut the white sugar in half because the yams are already sweetened. I just skipped to #3 of the recipe and mashed those up in a bowl instead of cooking any sweet potatoes and it turned out perfectly! My husband said it was his favorite thing at the Thanksgiving table! I plan on making it again at Christmas! You were right...I'll never go back to the sweet potatoes with marshmallows. :)

Sausage and Vegetable Calzones

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2012
I made this exactly according to the directions, and didn't care for it much. I liked the garlic cooking cream flavor, but I think there were too many mushrooms and peppers for my taste. My family didn't care for it either. Will probably not make again.

Cheesecake Pops

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2012
I made these for my son's bake sale for his class and they were a huge hit! I used several different kinds of sprinkles as well as crushed Butterfinger candy bars to roll them in once they were coated. Then I added each one to a pop bag and tie. They looked so professional!! This recipe is quite time consuming, so be prepared to work. However the end result is so worth it! They looked and tasted amazing!

Bow Ties with Sausage, Tomatoes and Cream

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2012
WOW! Very impressive! I took one readers advice and used 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes, instead of 1/2 becasue my family doesn't like things very spicy. Other than that, I made it exactly according to the recipe. Even my picky 9 year old son said, on a scale of 1-10, it was a 9! He said I should open up my own restaurant! ;o) Easy to make and just delicous! Thank you so much for sharing!!!
