I have made this a few times now, and we have perfected it - we think. I thinly slice, then halve an onion and put it in the bottom of the crock pot. Then I plop the pork on top of the onion, then give it two good cranks of cracked black pepper. Pour the root beer on (we use Hansen's - of all the ones we've tried, it's the best flavor with this) and let it go. We use Stubbs BBQ sauce - - really like the flavor, and it's about the only one with no High Fructose Corn Syrup.
