Slow Cooker Baked Beans

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2015
Like others have said, the flavor is great! But the water content is a bit too low and you need to be prepared to watch them throughout the day the first time or two that you make them. The first time I made them they ended up mushy because they cooked way too long. So I cut the time down the next time and they were totally burnt around the edges and had to be thrown away (I used only just over the 1 cup of water called for that time - I had forgotten I used quite a bit more the first time, you do need to put enough water to cover the beans by about an inch or you will have to add water during cooking). Just be prepared to take them off early if need be, or to have a back up for dinner if not done yet. The third time I made them I added more water again, but used Navy beans (I used Great Northern beans the first two times, not sure if that made any difference or not) and they were still hard at dinnertime so I kept cooking (I still had to add a little water toward the end to keep them cooking and they ended up cooking [with a prior overnight soak] for about 12 hours, but I do have hard water and had forgotten to add baking soda until the last two hours). I did not use any meat or meat flavoring and they were excellent! So be ready to play around with them the first few times to determine your cooking time, water level, etc. Then write it down for the next time so you can improve upon it. It is worth it as they are great (healthier than canned and cheaper, too!)!

Strawberry Pie II

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2014
I made this yesterday for my husband's birthday and it was good. I did not have any corn starch so I used about 1/3 cup flour instead and it turned out with a great consistency. It was a good pie, nothing super extraordinary, but pretty good!

Slow Cooker Thanksgiving Turkey

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2013
I have made this recipe every year for several years now and have LOVED it more than any other turkey! Very moist! I have never made it quite the same as this recipe though. I don't like bacon so have never included that. I usually use the included turkey gravy packet that comes with the turkey breast instead of a can of turkey gravy. I have never skinned the turkey breast, but just usually rub a good amount of the seasonings under the skin. It might be a bit dryer if you skinned the turkey, but I might try it this year as it would be a bit healthier that way. The sage and Worcestershire sauce do make an excellent flavor! When it was time for making gravy, I use the drippings out of the crockpot and it makes for an excellent flavorful gravy!

Yellow Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2013
I followed the recipe except to swap out whole wheat pastry flour and barley flour for the all-purpose to add a little more nutrition and I made cupcakes instead of a cake. They came out totally sunken down in the middle and were very hard and chewy around the edges. Probably won't try this recipe again. They did have a good flavor though, and I even cut the sugar to only 1 and a half cups instead of 2. Two cups would have been WAY too sweet!

Cranberry Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2012
I made this for Thanksgiving, first time I tried making Cranberry sauce and it was excellent! Even the kids liked it! I used Xagave brand of agave nectar and used about 3/4 of a cup instead of sugar to make it a bit healthier and it tastes great! I also added a bit of cinnamon and just a tiny bit of nutmeg per other reviews. I will definitely make this again and probably never buy the canned stuff again! REALLY, REALLY good and VERY easy to make! I did make it about two days ahead of time, too, to cut down on work the day of and some reviews mentioned that the flavor gets better when made ahead of time... great idea! Was still very tart even with the o.j., but I did use Great Value (Wal-Mart) brand that is a pretty sour o.j. so that may have helped. Overall it did not seem too sweet, but was comparable to the canned stuff, just better and much healthier with the agave nectar.

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2012
As far as apple pies go, this one is great! I am not a pie person and really don't care for apple pie at all, but i made this for my husband for Father's Day ad the whole fmaily loved it! I liked itm ore than I thought I would. I don't like pie crust very much at all, but the inside was delicious! I did add about a tsp of cinnamon as some other reviewers suggested. I also used soft whole wheat instead of the enriched flour to add to the sauce and it was excellent! I am sure I will make this again! Thank you to the submitter for sharing!
