A retired family therapist (in my 30s), moving in to gluten-free baking with our family owned bakery, Jewel's Cupcake Shop. I'm now having a great time developing delicious treats for gluten intolerant people, as well as addressing other allergies (soy, milk, eggs, etc).
My favorite things to cook
I love new challenges. My niece is gluten intolerant and allergic to soy, milk, eggs, and peanuts. Try pleasing a kid with those allergies!!! I love putting a smile on her face with foods she hasn't been able to eat for awhile and this transcends to other people as well. It is awesome to see people's reactions to our food. They can't believe it is GF. Bringing tears of joy to people's eyes over a cupcake is priceless.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Gluten Free - out of necessity
Mexican - grew up on the real stuff with a New Mexico twist.
Tamales during the holidays! All the ladies get together for a day - gossip and delicious food - perfect.
My cooking triumphs
Anything that puts a smile on someone's face.
My cooking tragedies
My attempts at GF, soy-free, vegan brownies have been a boiling greasy, lava like disaster, but I will perfect this....Stay tuned.
