Reviews are Critical

I love the Allrecipes site but before I fall head over wok for any recipe, I always check the reviews.  Sometimes a recipe sounds totally fantastic to me and then I realize that the reviews are just so-so or most reviewers ended up adding lots of different things.  That's when I keep looking.  While I love the user-friendliness already built into this site, I really, really wish that I could print some of the reviews along with the recipes that I like.  Often they contain valuable suggestions that could make my first try with a dish easier or tastier or faster.  No one would want to print all of the reviews.  Being able to pick and choose reviews that appeal to my needs would sure be nice.  I wonder if the programmers at Allrecipes could make this happen.

When I read the "most helpful" reviews, often within the first few I find someone has highlighted the best points made by so many others. I have a lot of time on my hands so will often read the majority of them. We all have our methods, but even in a time crunch, I will read the first several "most helpful"' then the ones with the lowest ratings. Personally I find the 4 star ratings great because they like the same recipe I do, but have valuable comments to add. Usually I can remember the changes I want to make, but if not, they are often few enough I just jot them down.

I noticed you have an AR membership. When you go to print your recipe, you have a print screen where you can customize how your recipe prints. There is an option to select which reviews you want to print. Hope this helps!

I'm just starting. So, I'm trying to go by the recipe as written. Soon I can see myself combing through reviews on how to improve them.

I like the reviews. There is some helpful tips in them. As for the stars? I have no regard for them. If a recipe has my attention I'll study the ingredients, proportions and directions to determine if it has the qualities I want. Sometimes I tweak a little and other times the recipe becomes only an inspiration. When I review a recipe it is because I stayed close to the original ingredients. I will not rate a recipe that failed because it may have been my personal taste or mistakes that caused the failure.

I love the reviews, but so many times there are enough changes made that it isn't even the same recipe. Wish there were two catagories: Reviewed as is, and Changed and reviewed. How can you honestly review a recipe that you didn't follow?
