About this Cook
I grew up in the mid-west with a great family always interested in baking. My mom always inspired me to bake and take a turn at cooking. She was terrific at perfecting all those "necessary" comfort foods and passed a desire to perfect them also. I married my high-school sweetheart in 1998 and moved to arizona to stretch my wings shortly after. After working a bunch of office jobs my husband, who is a pastor, and I were surprised with our son in 2001 (we were on the five year plan). Fortunatly, I was able to stay home with my son and shortly after our daughter arrived. Juggling being a pastor's wife and mommy, I became "re-interested" with baking and a strong desire to open up my own bakery began to form. By this time my entire family moved "west of the mississippi" and the encouragment I got from my parents was there again. I am now a mommy of a five year old and three year old and continue my quest of perfecting "old school" favorites and am still dreaming of my bakery to be.
My favorite things to cook
Anything that is baked...especially cookies, cakes + breads. I enjoy cooking "real" food, also...I'm just not as sure of my skills in that area.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I LOVE Christmas time...not only do we celebrate our Kings birth, but the sites and smells bring back so many childhood memories. I'm known for loving Christmas so much that before I got married, my mom and my sister's threw me a "christmas things" shower for my wedding. I LOVE to be in the kitchen making cookies to share in my annual cookie/ornament exchange with several of my friends.
My cooking triumphs
I feel pretty confident that I can hold my own in the cookie department. My husband and I hang out with a bunch of twenty something guys and literally they turn into a bunch of "momma's boys" whenever I bake cookies for them, literally salivating as they're cooking. They tell me my cookies are simply the best!
My cooking tragedies
I've recently ventured into cake making, so I'm still learning that art. But my sister asked me to make an ice-cream cake for my neices birthday party. Fortunatly, I gave myself plenty of time the week before because my power went out right as I finished frosting + decorating the "1st" cake! You have to freeze it immediatly after you frost it, and sadly to say, that cake melted. At least I had enough time to make a replacement!

Rolled Buttercream Fondant
Absolutely tasty and rolls just like the store-bought fondant! I needed pure white fondant for my daughters hello kitty cake and this held together beautifully! Will definitly be using this on a regular basis! The more you add powdered sugar as you knead it, the less sticky it gets. I added food color gel and "kneaded" more powdered sugar in to make it the perfect consistancy! Love it!

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies
a great large recipe! I halfed the butter and substitued butter flavored crisco and they came out great!

Beth's Spicy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies
absolutely incredible...changed the amount of vanilla because I always do, but the ground cloves added is perfect!
