Thanksgiving is a time to remember the things you are thankful for.  This year I don't have to go back very far to realize just how lucky I am.  Hurricane Sandy changed many peoples lives and living at the Jersey shore gave my family a lot to be thankful for. The night of the storm was very… MORE

About this Cook
I have been happily married for 44 years and we have 2 grown children and 4 grandchildren. My son and his family live nearby and my daughter and her family live 3 hours away.
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking things I can be creative with. My favorite thing to make is a new recipe. Using fresh grown herbs and home grown vegetables has added a lot of satisfaction to my cooking. I love presentation and the WOW factor! Catching fish in the morning and having them for dinner is a real treat.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every Easter I hold the annual Easter Egg Hunt. Each year it grows more as the family expands. We spend Thanksgiving with my daughter's family near Hershey Pa. On even years, my son and his family join us. Good food, good times in the kitchen, good friends, and football, followed by early morning shopping and a night at Hershey Park for the kids.
My cooking triumphs
My sister and I made my mother's wedding cake when, as a widow, she married one of my dad's friends. I don't think anything could top the feeling of finding one of my recipes mentioned in a magazine.
My cooking tragedies
While delivering a cake to my husband's workplace, my little one sat on it! I took the cake home, called hubby and the guys said "bring it anyway!" Fortunately, it had plastic wrap. Also, I set off the fire alarm at Disney World's Fort Wilderness while cooking bacon. The fire car came with it's lights flashing. It was soooo embarrassing.

French Salad Dressing
LOVE LOVE LOVED IT! I left out the onion and lemon juice as I didn't have any but will add it next time. I also used apple cider vinegar. This was EXCELLENT! It's a homemade Catalina French! I highly recommend this recipe if you like Catalina French. I'm e-mailing this to my family!

Allie's Awesome Easy Spice Cake
AWESOME is it!! This cake was so easy to make. I just love a dump, mix, and bake cake; and, imagine that it fills your house with such a spicy fragrance! What could be better! Although I believe you don't need an electric mixer to make, I couldn't help but use my new mixer to try it out. I wanted a special recipe to make for the occasion and this one was it!! Both Hubby and I give it 5 stars all the way. Next time I will add raisins. Thank you Allie for this AWESOME recipe!! (I am unable to add a photo but have it saved for when AR gets it fixed).

Oven Roasted Teriyaki Chicken
YUMMY! My only substitution was to use brown sugar in place of the splenda. I did bake it at 420 degrees because my baking dish could not exceed 425 and I didn't want to chance breaking it. I set my timer for 10 minute intervals 6 times, so not to miss basting. We really enjoyed this recipe and I will make it again. Thank you for sharing.
