A Line and A Hook From SHORECOOK!

A Phone Call that Changed My World

I remember the day so well that my daughter, Tami, phoned and said she found this wonderful site called Allrecipes on the computer.  She said she had been going there everyday making something new for dinner and how happy and enthused the whole family was.  She suggested I take a look at the site and try a recipe.  Her thinking was that it would take my mind off our troubles and encourage her father and I to eat.

Tami was three hours away and felt helpless in being there for us.  We really weren't eating right as Hubby was undergoing treatment for a border-line aggressive cancer.  I took her advice and little by little became addicted.

The site was more than just a recipe site.  It gave me a "happy place" to go and nourishment when we needed it most.  I have come away with not only being a better cook, but also having a treasure-load of friends, and I THANK YOU ALL for it!

SHORECOOK, I wish I'd found AllRecipes earlier in life, but I'm so grateful I didn't miss the experience! It's definitely one of my "happy places" :) It was the "happy accident" that changed my world too!!

Hello! I was going through your pictures trying to see your "Rainbow Clown Cake" finished because your unbaked cake looked really neat. I didn't find it, because you've got ten BILLION pictures of some of THE most amazing food I've ever seen. I just have one question for you.. Have you EVER messed up?! lol! Everything I saw looked PERFECT! :)

Hi LitaC! You are so sweet! You've never seen me flip an egg. Ugly mess!! The "Rainbow Clown Cake" is baked. I'll post the link here....http://allrecipes.com/cook/shorecook/Photo.aspx?photoID=378986....Look close and you'll see it has risen higher than the pan. I frosted it to look like a basketball court and told no one about the color of the cake. It was a surprise and a huge hit. I took the photo in the pan because it was so pretty and I didn't want to chance messing it. It was a fun recipe. Try it if you get a chance.

About Me
I have been happily married for 47 years and we have 2 grown children and 4 grandchildren. My son and his family live nearby and my daughter and her family live 3 hours away.
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking things I can be creative with. My favorite thing to make is a new recipe. Using fresh grown herbs and home grown vegetables has added a lot of satisfaction to my cooking. I love presentation and the WOW factor! Catching fish in the morning and having them for dinner is a real treat.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every Easter I hold the annual Easter Egg Hunt. Each year it grows more as the family expands. We spend Thanksgiving with my daughter's family near Hershey Pa. On even years, my son and his family join us. Good food, good times in the kitchen, good friends, and football, followed by early morning shopping and a night at Hershey Park for the kids.
My cooking triumphs
My sister and I made my mother's wedding cake when, as a widow, she married one of my dad's friends. I don't think anything could top the feeling of finding one of my recipes mentioned in a magazine.
My cooking tragedies
While delivering a cake to my husband's workplace, my little one sat on it! I took the cake home, called hubby and the guys said "bring it anyway!" Fortunately, it had plastic wrap. Also, I set off the fire alarm at Disney World's Fort Wilderness while cooking bacon. The fire car came with it's lights flashing. It was soooo embarrassing.
