I made this recipe twice before doing this review. Both pies turned out good, but not good enough to get more stars. I followed the recipe to a "T" with the exception of adding some cinnamon and a small amount of allspice. I was really excited when I found this recipe but I am at a loss as to the many rave reviews. Don't get me wrong, the pies were good, just not as special as most reviewers wrote. Making a lattice top crust and pouring the sauce in and over is not necessary when it is much easy and quicker to toss the apples in the mixture and cover the pie with a well vented top crust. I have been baking apple pies for over 40 years and I can say with authority and experience the recipe is good, just not great.
