Saturday Morning Buttermilks

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2014
I have a similar recipe to this that I have used for years and years. The only difference is that, in addition to the buttermilk, I also add about 1/4 cup regular whole milk. I made these this morning and remember now why I love and adore this recipe for buttermilk pancakes!

Jen's Nachos

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2014
There's something about adding the corn and the tomatoes to the bbq sauce in these nachos that made them taste sooooo good! You just have to try it to love it. It's similar to regular nachos but even better. I made a couple of substitutions-I used regular tortilla chips instead of the nacho-flavor listed, and I substituted Johnsonville's Italian ground sausage for the ground beef. I liked the substitutions and think I'll try using leftover cooked shredded chicken next time-yum, a barbecue chicken nacho dish. Thanks for the great recipe.

Amazing Muffin Cups

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2014
Such a great all-in-one breakfast cup! Potatoes, cheese, sausage and egg all in one wonderful cup! I will be making these again. (I added a little salt, pepper and onion powder to the egg mixture, along with about 1 T. half & half to make the filling a little less bland.)

Pork Carnitas with Cilantro Tomatillo Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2014
I've made these twice so far in one week-the seasoning is impeccable! I imagine I will be making these on a weekly basis-thanks, Mazola. The second time I made them I substituted pickled jalapenos for the tomatillos and shredded iceburg for the cilantro, only because that's what I had on hand. I tossed the chopped tomatoes with the lettuce and peppers for a cold topping and added sour cream too to "cool" the spiceness of the pork. Great recipe.

Sweet and Spicy Salmon with Grapefruit Salsa

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2014
I would have given it a better rating, but I substituted a lot in this recipe, and I probably ruined it because of that. I used tilapia instead of salmon and can't eat grapefruit so used oranges. Not so good. LIke I said, it was my fault for not going by the recipe. I did use the wonderful blend of spices though, which were good. No photo-trust me, you wouldn't want to see it!

Overnight Cinnamon Rolls I

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2014
I was looking for a recipe that I could make the night before, and this is it. A wonderful recipe that gives great results. No raisins and a little more cinnamon than the recipe called for in making these.

Caesar Salad Supreme

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2013
The dressing was the BEST ever-even better than ones I had in restaurants-I forgot to take a photo because it was going so fast at Christmas, meaning this salad was being eaten up so fast! I had to get mine fast to get any-did everything just like the recipe (but no anchovies, sorry) said-croutons and all, and I will make this over and over again now-the best! Thanks for sharing!

Blueberry Crumb Bars

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2013
Made these with fresh blueberries-thought they looked too thick for what I like, so I made half the crumb recipe and used a 9x13 inch pan-it was great. Be sure and refrigerate to let them set up well

Homemade Vanilla Extract

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2013
I tried it and love the result-can't wait until it's ready for my friends to use! I'm giving as Christmas gifts to my foodie friends, and I only started a week ago, so the tag includes directions to wait at least 2 more weeks before using, but they're already turning a golden brown. Love this easy idea for myself and also for gifts.

Thanksgiving Leftovers Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2013
Absolutely wonderful! I would use this as a complete Thanksgiving meal for a small group if I didn't want the hassle of a huge dinner. I was skeptical about the mayo, but it kept the turkey moist and gave it a great flavor. I made a few changes: Added dry marjoram to the chicken, along with salt & pepper; Used canned veggies since we don't like the texture of frozen (used peas & carrots) and it was wonderful that way; Added even more cheddar to the top instead of paprika. What a great recipe-why didn't I think of this??? *hint: MUST be served with cranberry sauce!

Skillet Mac and Cheese & Kielbasa

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2013
I used medium cheddar only as the cheese, and this was an easy weeknight meal for us-I had bulk Johnsonville mild Italian sausage that I cooked and crumbled to add instead of the kielbasa. A repeat recipe for sure-loved it, and my family scarfed it up!

Sausage and Vegetable Risotto

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2013
If you've made risotto before then you know it will take a lot of stirring and extra time, and this recipe was well-worth the effort. The taste is fresh and yummy because of the fresh asparagus, peas and mushroom. The creaminess comes from the risotto if you stirred it enough! Even reheated the next day, this dish will be a staple in my family-loved it because the sausage gave it the spices and flavors that it needed. Thanks, Johnsonville!

Bison Dog Roll-Ups

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2013
I made these Bison Roll-Ups for my family, and when I went shopping for the crescent rolls I noticed they made big ones, so that's what I bought, and I'm glad I did. The bison dogs from High Plains are big and juicy, and they fit perfectly inside the big rolls. I used Tillamook mild cheddar cheese just because I'm a fan of the brand, and I thought the bison dogs deserved something special. I loved the addition of the cornmeal on the top and bottom also. I didn't add the mayo to the honey mustard, but instead combined yellow mustard and honey-I tried some with the mayo, and my family wasn't a fan, neither was I. The bison meat was rich, and I couldn't finish but half of one dog. My 5 year old grandson only finished 3 bites, even though he loved them. We aren't used to bison, and even though they were good, they were very, very rich. Would I make them again? Of course! We all got a kick out of eating bison instead of beef for a change-maybe I would serve them with a light salad next time. Only 4 stars because of the dressing and cheese in the original recipe.
