My favorite things to cook
My favorite time to cook is fall- when the air is suddenly crisp and the kitchen is cool again. Then I love to cook with apples- applesauce, apple butter (great slow cooker recipes on this site) and bake muffins and squash. Fall and winter I like to experiment with stews and soups and make baked beans. I like to cook things which warm the kitchen and smell good.
My favorite family cooking traditions
August will always remind me of my mother in the kitchen making Peach Chutney for the neighborhood Park fundraiser.It featured an English "Pub Lunch" complete with cheddar cheese, with peach chutney in place of Branston pickle.
My cooking triumphs
Getting my husband to eat vegetables at a stage less cooked than "mushy" and without butter or white sauce.
My cooking tragedies
Trying to create sweet and sour canned tuna for my brothers when I was in high school. It was my job to make us dinner one night a week- this time they scraped together their pocket money and went out for pizza slices.

Classic Macaroni Salad
What a great recipe! Surprisingly not too sweet after chilling. Good as written but also very adaptable to personal changes.

Pumpkin Wheat Honey Muffins
Delicious and satisfying. Made these with several of the other reviewers suggestions- used 1 tsp ginger & cinnamon, 1/2 tsp allspice and nutmeg since I didn't have pumpkin pie spice. I also only used 1/4 c. oil- and added 1/2 cup applesauce. Used the honey even though I don't like it that much but it isn't overpowering- neither is the whole wheat flour despite being used alone. Just the right amount of moist sweetness with the raisins. Really enjoyable - a great recipe which I'll make again soon.

Spritz Orange Crisps
This is an excellent recipe- the cookies have just the right hint of orange flavor and a satisfying crispness. As I had never used a cookie press before, the first attempts didn't work- I used baking paper and the dough didn't stick so the cookies wouldn't detach from the press. I rolled them into balls and flattened them and they were delicious. I will use this again!
