About this Cook
I have never cooked as my sole source of income, but have always dabbled in it: 5 years of Food and Nutrition in school, previous small business in professional cake baking and decorating, volunteer cook for special functions at a women's shelter, soup kitchen cook.
My favorite things to cook
I don't have a favourite thing to cook as I like variety.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Gingerbread and all of the decorating that goes with it. We have made gingerbread houses with candy stained glass windows that light up inside and cookies that are works of art.
My cooking triumphs
I have made so many different things over the years; from simple meals to wedding cakes, but no triumph is greater than putting a smile on someone's face. Whether it is turkey dinner at the soup kitchen or a child with a special cookie, those smiles are my triumph.
My cooking tragedies
I actually burnt Kraft macaroni and cheese. :( I got busy and forgot it was on the stove and my kids told everyone.

Basic Ham and Bean Soup
Just made this today. Delicious, followed the recipe as written. Not necessary to soak beans overnight or boil bones longer as I read in other comments. Beans are tender and ham flavour is wonderfully infused with the times and instructions provided.

Homemade Taco Seasoning Mix
Great seasoning mix. As good or better than the package Old El Paso that I normally buy. I added the seasoning after fully browning the meat and draining the grease. I used a cup of water and let it simmer down for about 10-15 min.

"Million Dollar" Chinese Cabbage Salad
Good salad, a little sweet for my taste though. I will definitely try it again, but will modify the amount of sugar.
