About this Cook
I am a 63 year old Mother of three wonderful children, six grandchildren and our latest..one great granddaughter. I love cooking. I was born into a very large family and my Mother was an awesome cook. Everyone loved coming to our house because my Mom and two sisters-in-law served up the best food in the area.
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking wild meats and meats with gravies. Everyone loves my big pots of lima beans, all three southern greens (mustards, `collards, and turnips) I usually keep a lemon jello pound cake on the counter or a white chocolate/almond devils food cake.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family traditions are probably picking fresh vegetables from the garden and cooking them...usually all the men in the family keep us supplied with fresh fish, venison, pork, squirrel, rabbits...whatever is in season and we all love to get together and share our recipes.
My cooking triumphs
I would say I have conquered my Mom's expert rating in cooking squirrel. She could cook it where you could suck the meat right off the bone...I have achieved that! :)
My cooking tragedies
We didn't have things like spaghetti or lasagne when I was growing up...with ten kids in the house to feed, it was usually a big pot of lima beans, greens, or fried potatoes and bacon with tomato gravy....always biscuits or hoecakes...but Italian food was unheard of...so, my first lasagna was a tragedy...I have never tried it since...what a mess! I still don't know if I had too many noodles or they were supposed to be precooked...anyway, it kept getting taller and taller until it all cooked over and out of the pan..as it grew taller, I panicked.
