Strawberry Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2011
I made this cake based on the high ratings, but after making it, I feel that it was rather bland (even though I added Vanilla extract) and the texture is not what I expect of a coffee cake...or any cake for that matter.

Caramel Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2010
This was great. I didnt even bother turning the can. When I opened the can, the sauce was super thick and rich. I mixed with some milk and rum extract to make a "sauce" for breadpudding.

Glazed Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2010
Yum! I put onion powder, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes on the wings and baked them in the oven for about 20 minutes on each side first, and then I dipped and basted the wings with the sauce for the next 15 minutes. Even though I tweeked it, I tasted the sauce before basting and it was great! The sauce is the main attraction. I used Kraft Honey Hickory Smoke for the BBQ sauce.

Taco Seasoning I

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2010
This is great and I will never buy the pre-packaged stuff. I made this as written for beef tacos and it tastes wonderful. This will taste as good as the quality of the spices that you use, so make sure that your dry ingredients are not too old!

'Chinese Buffet' Green Beans

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2010
This is good - I left out the sugar and I did not miss it. If I decide to add sugar the next time I make this, it definately will not be the amount called for in the recipes - this would make my vegetables too sweet for me. I added onions and mushrooms to the green beans as well. I did not have peasnut or sesame oil, so I sauteed using Pam Olive Oil spray and it worked just fine.

New Orleans Shrimp Toss

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2010
Really good! I added some diced bell pepper and mushroom with the onion, and took the advice of another reviewer and added the garlic near the end so that it would not burn. I used Old Bay in place of cajun seasoning and regular cream of chicken soup because that is what I had on hand. I like my food spicy so I added some ground red pepper and Sriracha hot chili sauce for kick. I served this over lightly buttered white rice.

Szechwan Shrimp

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2010
This was really good - my boyfriend thought maybe something else was missing, but overall the flavor was really great, we both really enjoyed this, and I would definately make this again! Also, I used fresh jumbo shrimp for this dish.

Curried Honey Mustard Chicken

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2009
This was very easy to make and very good. I made this recipe using chicken leg quarters. I added extra red pepper and I salted and peppered my meat before adding the marinade.

Coconut Shrimp I

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2009
I made this as part of my Christmas Eve dinner and they were awesome and easy to make. After putting them in the fridge to chill, they were so easy to handle and I did not have an issue with my coconut batter falling off while frying. They came out crsispy and delicious! I made a dipping sauce to go with them: 1 Cup Orange Marmalade, 3 T prepared horseradish, and 2 T dijon mustard. Also, I didnt have wax paper so I just sprayed a little Pam on a cookie sheet to chill them in the fridge and that worked perfectly.

Rich Herb and Lemon Chicken

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2009
Like others have said, it has a very strong lemon taste - this may be due to me using bottled lemon juice which is usually *concentrated* in flavor. I left out the lemon zest. After simmering for 45 min, I tasted the sauce and thought it was very tangy, so I added grated parmesan and romano cheese to the sauce and chicken and continued to simmer for 15 more min - this did the trick! It mellowed the lemon in the sauce and helps to thicken it! This reminded me of some kind of Olive Garden dish. Other changes that I made was that I lightly floured my chicken breasts before browning - this helped to lightly thicken the sauce to a nice consistency while simmering. I will definately make this again with 1/2 the lemon juice next time. I would recommend that you give this a try - the dish has a good flavor and smells lovely while simmering!

Creamy Dill Dipping Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2009
I followed the recipe as written except I omitted the salt and used fat free sour cream. This tastes great! I served it with pan seared tilapia, and the next day I used it as a dressing for sandwiches at lunch. I would definitely make this again!

Salsa Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2009
The only reason that I'm giving it 4 instead of 5 stars is because my boyfriend and I love spicy food, so we tweeked the recipe a tad. Instead of 4 tsp of taco seasoning, I used a whole packet and sprinkled it over the 4 chicken breasts along with a sprinkling of seasoning salt. I also added onion slices and fresh mushrooms on top of the chicken and then added the salsa. I used up 2 slices of pepper jack cheese that I had left over and also added shredded cheese (mexican style blend). My boyfriend and I really liked it! We ate it with sour cream on top, mexican rice, and tortillas. We ended up ditching the tortillas and just ate the chicken! I would definitely make this again!

Perfect Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2009
This is so easy and affordable to make! I grew up eating sweet potato pie and my boyfriend really likes pumpkin pie - I never made pumpkin pie before today and he LOVES it! This beats out a store bought pie any day! I read several reviews and decided to add extra cinnamon, 1/4 tsp of allspice, and about 2 Tbsp of brown sugar. I warmed the pumpkin and the spices first and I used a graham cracker crust. I turned off the heat and opened the oven door after it finished baking to let the pie slowly cool in the oven so it doesn't crack on the counter.

Slippery Nipples

Curried Coconut Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2009
This was waaaaaaaayyyyy too sweet and sugary for me - so sweet that I cant eat it! I think that this recipe has potential though. This explosive sweetness may be due to my own fault. I tried to follow the recipe as written, however I didnt have sugar so I used splenda. Splenda is supposed to be 1:1 with sugar, but maybe splenda is still sweeter when it comes to mixing with foods? I gave this 3 stars because I think even with the 3TBS of extra sugar called for, it would be too sweet still . I read some reviews and I did not see anyone else who had the same complaint, so I'm going to try this again next week and next time I will only add 1 tsp of sugar at a time and taste to see what works for me...hopefully it will earn more stars for me next time around.

Monkey Bread I

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2009
This was really good. Loved the caramel sauce! I cut the recipe down to make enough for 1 container of biscuits. I did not add the nuts or raisins - instead added 1/2 of a banana chopped (boyfriend's idea). Awesome!
