I started cooking when I was 12. My mother had a stroke so she taught me from a chair. She was an excellent cook. A mixture of country and German. When I moved to the Gulf Coast of TX I learned to make some Cajun dishes and also Tex-Mex.
My favorite things to cook
I love casseroles and also stir-fry. The only thing I collect is cook books. I love trying new things!
My favorite family cooking traditions
We always have a homemade Cranberry Relish at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Also, Hot Bacon Coleslaw.
My cooking triumphs
I once made Baked Alaska when I was hosting a women's group. I just made it from the Betty Crocker cookbook that I had, circa 1959! I had never made it before and it turned out perfect!! My friends couldn't believe it! I was only 18 at the time.
My cooking tragedies
My sister-in-law wanted me to make my Avocado and Grapefruit salad for the family Thanksgiving. It is best done individually but I had to make it for 20-30 people. It was very expensive and she mixed it up instead of serving it and then adding the poppy-seed dressing. It was like a bowl of mush! I felt like strangling her, LOL!!
