Soft Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2011
Good, health-conscious cookie! I changed a few things: used 100% whole wheat flour, used all brown sugar (and would reduce to 3/4c next time - very sweet), used skim milk instead of yogurt, used a whole egg instead of whites, and used 1 tbsp butter instead of "butter flavored granules". The recipe made 18 perfectly textured, generously-sized cookies.

Buttermilk Cinnamon Rolls

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2011
Super Yummy! I made these with 100% whole wheat flour for a healthier treat. Increased cinnamon to 2 1/2 tsp, and would use a full tbsp next time. There will definitely be a next time.

Roast Sticky Chicken-Rotisserie Style

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2011
My husband gives this 5 stars, I give it 4. We really liked the flavour although it could have used an extra kick. I roasted two 3lb chickens for 3.5 hours and they were perfectly tender. I will definitely make this again, and will experiment with leaving the spice rub on the birds in the fridge for a longer time.

Coconut-Curry Lentil Stew Served over Quinoa

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2011
I liked this a lot and it gave the kitchen a wonderful smell as it cooked. Needed extra spice - I added red pepper flake and extra curry powder. Increased the lentils to beef it up.

Actually Delicious Turkey Burgers

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2011
A good healthy burger. Giving 4 stars because they need a lot of extras - I used oregano, creole seasoning, roasted garlic, worcestershire, liquid smoke, and frank's red hot sauce. Also used 2 whole eggs instead of whites to get a better consistency - still healthy. Makes 12 good-sized burgers.

Molasses Baked Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2011
This is sort of a strange flavour. Yes the recipe was easy and the chicken turned out very tender, but we weren't big fans of the sweet taste. I added cayenne and cajun seasoning to spice it up but the cinnamon was overwhelming. Thanks for posting - always happy to try something unique even if it doesn't become a regular.

Hearty Red Beans and Rice

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2011
Great, just needed a little kick, which I added in the form of spicy sausage, cajun seasoning, cumin, and cayenne pepper. Also added 1 chopped red pepper. Will make again.

This is about the best cornbread you can make without buttermilk. Great recipe.

Lamb and Winter Vegetable Stew

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2011
A very good winter stew for a Canadian February night. Here are vegetable proportions by the veggie, not by the cup, for ease of shopping and chopping: 1 small butternut squash, 2 medium parsnips; one medium sweet potato, and 2 large stalks celery.

Buffalo Chicken Chili

A good tasty chili, but boy this is HOT. Too hot - if I make it again I will cut the chili powder and hot sauce in half.

Brown Sugar Oatmeal Pancakes

Our new favourite pancakes. I used all whole-wheat flour instead of half and they turned out just great. Hardly needed any syrup. A new weekend regular.

Chicken with Couscous

Mediocre - nice flavour and definitely not too spicy, but did not thicken up as it cooked.

Quinoa Chard Pilaf

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2011
This was alright but needed a lot of modifications. I tripled the lentils to make this a heartier meal. I increased the garlic to 4 cloves and added 1 tsp thyme and 1 tsp red pepper flake to the hot oil to give it some flavour, as well as adding sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste at the end. My husband wants to know where to bacon is ;) but I enjoyed this easy and healthy dinner.

Spicy Collard Greens

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2011
Great recipe as written. Tonight, I had a vegetarian guest at dinner, so I made this recipe without bacon - I added 1 tbsp olive oil and 2 tsp liquid smoke to the boiling water instead. It turned out great, and everyone was asking what gave it the great flavour. It seems like a lot of vinegar, but most of the vinegar taste burns off, leaving a nice fresh taste. Yum!

Spicy Rapid Roast Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2011
If you like spicy food, you need to increase the spices in this recipe. I doubled everything except the salt and it had a nice kick but was hardly fiery. My husband thought it was delicious. I will probably make this again. Thanks!

A decent chili, but very bland. I doubled the garlic and all spices, and it still needed added black pepper and pepper sauce.
