Sweet and Sour Pork III

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2011
I loved this recipe! My husband said it was the best sweet & sour pork he's ever had (I've never had it so I had nothing to compare it to but I loved it). I substituted some veggies - garlic scapes for the green onions and bok choy for the celery - because I had them on hand from my CSA share. I also added carrots since my kids love them. Everyone loved this and I will definitely make it again!

Marie's Easy Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2012
This recipe was awesome! I prepared the roast as directed but I omitted the potatoes. While I love the vegetables mushy and full of flavor, my family doesn't. When the roast was finished, I strained the vegetables (carrot, celery, onion and garlic per some other reviews) and used the juice to make the best gravy I've ever tasted. I served the roast with steamed carrots and sky-high Yorkshire pudding from all recipes - we didn't miss the potatoes. My mother never made roast beast that tasted like this; I will make this again. Thanks, Marie!

Marinated Scallops Wrapped in Bacon

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2011
I loved the marinade and the brown sugar sprinkle, the sweetness mixed with the saltiness of the bacon was very nice. I took the advice of other reviewers and only marinated 15 minutes. It was enough, the scallops were delicious.

Brie and Mushroom Phyllo Puffs

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2011
These were a big hit at my mom's Christmas party. It was my first time working with filo and it was falling apart but I found that it's very forgiving, the shape doesn't have to be perfect to look good. The filling was delicious!

Honey Baked Chicken II

Reviewed: May 20, 2011
This recipe has become a favorite in my family and part of the regular rotation. I use half the butter and cover during the first 30 minutes per the recipe reviews. I serve it with rice because the sauce is a perfect topping. Really love this!

Sausage and Bean Ragout

Reviewed: May 20, 2011
This soup was delicious! I made it without the fresh basil and garlic only because I didn't have it. Assumed I had it - wrong! I added some italian seasoning to compensate. I can't wait to make this next time with the garlic and basil; I'm sure it will be even better. I used parmesan instead of romano and ditalini instead of elbows because that's what I had. Also, I think next time I will just use sausage, I think the ground beef was too much and didn't add much flavor to the dish. Excellent!

Gourmet Mushroom Risotto

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2011
Delicious. I made a couple substitutions for items I didn't have in my pantry: vermouth for wine and parsley for chives. This was so good and the recipe was easy. Will definitely make again and again.

Banana Sour Cream Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2013
I loved this recipe!! I've tried lots of banana bread recipes and this one is my favorite so far. I halved the recipe to make one large loaf. Per some of the reviews I read, I baked mine at about 1 hour 10 minutes at 325. I used 2 medium size eggs and a mix of white sugar and brown sugar and it was perfect.

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: May 28, 2013
This is a five star recipe if you incorporate some of the changes suggested by other reviewers: I used a full pound of grated mozzarella, don't worry it's not too much cheese. I also simply soaked the noodles in hot water rather than cooking them, it definitely improved the texture. Omit the salt in the tomato sauce, it's really not needed. I still used the salt in the ricotta mixture. The recipe made a terrific lasagna.

Flaky Food Processor Pie Crust

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2010
This was a perfect recipe! I never thought I'd be able to make pie crust but I had no problem with this. I made 4 crusts (for 2 double crust pies). The first was a little wet and took awhile to roll out. The last ones were perfect.

I use this recipe all the time. I will never buy taco seasoning in a packet again!

Almond-Topped Fish

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2010
This was excellent. I prepared it without the fresh parsley because I didn't have it. My husband loved it and he doesn't even like parmesan. I thought the flavors worked well together. I wonder if some of the negative reviews were due to the strength of the parmesan and the onions - mine were mild. I will definitely make this again, it was a nice change from my usual butter and ritz topped cod.

Lisa's Co-op Kale Soup

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2010
I love this soup. I had a bunch of kale from my csa so I made this according to the recipe except for halving the red pepper flakes - i'm afraid of all that heat. It was still quite spicy and delicious. Best Kale Soup I've made so far.

This was awesome! Made it just like the recipe except I didn't have scallions. My husband said it was as good as a fancy restaurant. Thank you!

Simple Kale Soup

Reviewed: Jun. 6, 2009
This was delicious. Had kale from farm CSA but didn't know how to use it. So glad I found this recipe. Per the other comments, cooked garlic before adding the chicken broth and used regular ham.

Lentil and Sausage Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2011
This soup was awesome! I followed the recipe exactly (because I felt like) and it was delicious. Even my boys (5 and 2) loved it. Up until now I couldn't get my older son to eat onion or celery in a soup; I have to strain it first. I would make this soup again just for this reason alone. We all loved it, the flavor was great. I think I might experiment with different chicken or turkey sausage or leaving it out because there was so much flavor. This is going into my regular rotation. Thank you for the recipe.

French Meat Pie

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2010
This is a great recipe. My husband has been asking me for some time to make a meat pie and I chose this recipe for it's simplicity. I used the food processor pie crust recipe from this site. I took other reviewers' advice and used less allspice. I made 2 pies, 1 for freezing. Looking forward to the next pie.

Stuffed Mexican Peppers

Reviewed: May 20, 2011
These peppers were great but I made a lot of changes. I used green peppers because that's what I had. I didn't have the packaged taco seasoning so I substituted with Taco Seasoning II recipe on this site. I left out the rest of the seasoning (chili powder, salt, garlic salt and pepper) because they were already present in the seasoning recipe. I thought I might add additional seasoning after tasting but it wasn't necessary. I used a 15 oz can of tomato sauce by mistake so I added 1 cup of rice to compensate and didn't top the peppers with sauce, just the cheese. I didn't make the recipe as written because I didn't have the packaged mix but I'm glad I made it this way and reduced the salt.

Fish Fillets Italiano

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2010
I gave this recipe 4 stars instead of 5 because I took other reviewers' advice and added additional seasoning. This would have been way too bland as-is. That said, the recipe is wonderful and the meal was delicious - even my 2 toddlers enjoyed it. I used diced fresh tomatoes because I had them. I also used some italian seasoning, salt and pepper. Next time I will try kalamata olives and some spice variation. This is one I will be making again.

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2011
I'm split on these brownies. My husband loved them - thought they might be the best brownies he's ever had. I did not care for them at all. I found them to be way too sweet. It's a recipe I will make again for my husband on special occasions but I don't like them at all. Just personal preference, it's certainly a good recipe. Maybe I will read through the reviews and tinker with the recipe.
