Another Gramma Adventure! Eggs and Holes!

I love talking about my family and especially the grand daughters. So, yes, I treat my grand girls a bit special, at least to me, it is special. I treat them the way I think a child like myself would have liked to have been treated. Both have their own distinct personalities, for sure and I try to encourage each in their own way. But when they are around me, I sense that they just want to be themselves. Let’s call it Grammas Adventures. Someone I think said that on one of my previous blogs. I like the name.  So here is a recent adventure.  Zoe, grand daughter that lives with us, asked me if we could play a game? Well, it is close to bed time, we had supper and she helped make dessert. We had her favorite fruit, strawberries that we mixed up with a little sugar, balsamic vinegar and put over our leftover soda bread and added a little whipped cream. So, as to the game, I  saw some plastic Easter eggs that I got a few days ago and gave her to play with until we have our egg hunt at Easter yes, we will have a hunt, indoors or out, anyways that will be another blog. And there on the floor was the hula hoop. So I had to make a game on the spot. I told her that the game was going to be called “Egg in the Hole”. She looks at me and she says ok so how do we play the game? I start by saying that the hula hoop was the “hole” and that the plastic eggs had to be tossed into the hole. So, her imagination started and she put the largest plastic egg on the farthest side of the hoop and she said that he was the daddy and was calling all the eggs to come to him. Who am I to argue? I agreed. Now, we do have her pet cat that we lovingly call “psycho” but his real name is Buddy,  and I knew he would be in this game somewhere as he follows Zoe around like he is her dog. So the idea was to toss the eggs into the hole. Ok, cat decided he liked to chase the bouncing, rolling eggs. He has to be involved with her in anything she is playing with. We even have to give him his own barbie when she plays with hers. It is one that has seen better days to say the least. He likes to drag her around the house, and no, I won’t elaborate on what she looks like now, not a pretty thing anymore, I mean the barbie not Zoe, she is a doll. Buddy has also chosen a little toy troll with rainbow colored hair to play with also. If we throw the troll he will actually go get it and and start chewing on its hair and drag it around the house. So, we had to make rules that if “Buddy” chooses to help a player they would be allowed the point for getting the egg in the hole before Buddy batted it out of the game, but if he batted them in, no point. Anyways, game was so fun, tossing the eggs into the hole and watching if cat was going to chase them or not was exciting plus the fact that we had over 50 eggs was something! Just to say that GD was excited and having fun is a definite thing. She beat me by 1 egg. Just to see her eyes light up and the laughter at whatever was happening is such a blessing. Even when grampa asked if he could play also just thrilled her. He did win, but we think it was just a fluke, we will be challenging him soon. I just wanted to share this as much as I can in my way. As I said, my girls are my joy. Many things in my life are not good, but these memories I will keep forever if I have anything to say about it.

OH IBBZ I understand. I have a 3 year old great grandaughter that has lived with us since age 4 months. We have her sister also and she is 11. We have had her for 4 years. Lots of things are not the way I would like for them to be with our family. Hence the reason for us having custody of the two girls. We just try and make the best of it and try not to let it affect the girls in anyway. Sounds like you are doing a good job of that also.

You sound like such a great grandma! We still color eggs for Easter and the easter Bunny still visits too. I have twelve-year-old twins and a nine-year-old. I tell them everyday to please stop growing! It seems the little things in life can be the most wonderful! Enjoy your girls!

Also, I'll add, it seems the best cats have a little dog in them. We have one that chases baseballs, which can be dangerous, and I swear she wags her tail like a dog :)

Glad you are enjoying your kids too! I really think that dogs come back as cats in another life.

This sounds like a very fun game. We have our daughters cat scince they moved into a rental that will not allow cats and we call her our cat/dog because she follows me like a dog. She doesn't fetch......yet anyway. Another funny thing is our son's black Lab purrs when we pet him.

That's so funny. Made me laugh with the wonderful silly cuteness of it all. Such simple things get them every time. When my eldest daughter was very wee, 9 months at Xmas, it became apparent that she was much much more motivated by the colorful wrapping and boxes than the actual contents. SO, for her Xmas at age 21 months, I gave her a multitude of gayly decorated empty cardboard boxes, which, she adored.

Oh, yes, the grand girls love playing with empty boxes of all sizes. They make up all kinds of games. Sometimes it is a boat, sometimes a table, who knows, but they love even plastic boxes also. Hubby said we should just give her the boxes, not the toys, she has such a good time using her imagination with them. Oh, I bet she your daughter had a blast with those boxes.

About Me
My name is Deborah, please call me Debbie. I've been married for over 36 years to the same man. We have 2 children (girl and boy) and 2 grand daughters, one from each child. At the moment we have a gecko and a cat as housemates.
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking fried chicken in my cast iron pans. Any type of pasta dish is always a happy cooking time. I enjoy cooking fish and shrimp whenever possible. My family also enjoys my cornbread, biscuits, beans and greens, they eat almost every bite, so I know they like them.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Family insists that I make my "famous" potato salad for Easter, Christmas, Thanksgiving, actually any time is good for them.
My cooking triumphs
A castle cake w/moat for my grand daughter's 7th birthday made of Rice Krispies, frosting and a ton of toppings. It stood over a foot tall with the towers on top. She loved it, that is what matters to me.
My cooking tragedies
I tried making "meat muffins" and the fat from the ground pork overflowed the muffin tin, dripped on stove and caught fire, which in turn caught the meat on fire, which in turn caught the towel that I was holding while trying to get the pan out of the oven on fire, which in turn caught my pants on fire when I dropped it, which in turn burned my hand and arm when I tried to retrieve it, then I had to pay the landlord extra for the burned spot on the tile in the kitchen. I don't make meat muffins any more.
