ALSO AS AN ADDED BONUS... (Mike Harvey... The Rest of the Story)
Well I kind of left you hanging at Cat Hill's doorstep where she was surprised by mauigirl's arrival. Really, how can you top that pic? If you missed it, check out Part One (
http://allrecipes.com/cook/13972974/blogentry.aspx?postid=277073< ). But actually, Cat wasn't the only one that was surprised. Friday night after the relay, we had this happy reunion.
Lady Sparkle and mauigirl
Whether it's called a blowout, a bash, or a round-up, it's really all about the people, the food, the people. (I just repeated myself, didn't I?) Yep, did it on purpose, because even though we may be foodies here, it really is all about the peeps. Amazing folks
with so much in commom. If you can get yourself to a round-up, I strongly encourage you to do so. Or start your own! Now to the food...
Saturday morning began with an absolutely delicious selection of quiches prepared by bhawk, and beautifully decorated too! Accompanied by a fresh fruit salad, we were set for the morning.
We checked out the barbecue/grilling area, the chickens, the gardens and enjoyed stimulating conversation.
Cat's Water Garden
A rose by any other name...
Cat's gardens were absolutely gorgeous and as she guided us through all the nooks and crannies, each area held it's own special story. That, along with her extensive knowledge of herbs and flowers,
made for an enjoyable trip through her own little paradise.
Time for the main event... the barbecue and accompaniments. Working diligently along side of Cat Hill was bhawk and Mi Being Mi, and husband Jeff working the grill. The menu...
In addition to Cat's contributions, we had Mi Being Mi's famous baked beans (a must for each round-up), deviled eggs, key lime shamrock cake, red white & blue trifle, pineapple upside down cake, sangria
and more. Can we say "yum"...
After feasting on... well... the feast... we had a little gift distribution. What's for Dinner Mom made beautiful carry bags for us that Cat decorated.
A hostess gift from me to Cat
and gifts to my fellow travelers, Lady Sparkle and Mike Harvey.
Can you guess who got which bottle? Hehe...
It's all about the peeps...
mauigirl, Magnolia Blossom, Mike Harvey, Linda Harvey, Lady Sparkle
Mi Being Mi, Christine-NICU RN, bhawk, Coo Car, Cat Hill and Candice
The animals... (Oops, how did I miss Bane, the wonder dog?) Cat's girls... soon to be producing farm fresh eggs.
The beautiful horses...
A view at the pond.
We wrapped up the event on Sunday morning with an enjoyable breakfast at Cracker Barrel.
Another year, another round-up, another fun-filled time with friends from past round-ups and meeting new friends! Thank you so much to Cat Hill for sharing her home and her heart with us.
Oh yes, I promised you another part of the Midwest Adventure.
MIKE HARVEY (THE REST OF THE STORY...)
With all the talk back and forth on blogs and the Buzz, it was eagerly anticipated by all for the arrival of Mike Harvey. Whether it was concern over his travel arrangements or his capability of dealing
with so many of the female persuasion, many had commented. I posted a pic of his deluxe accommodations in the trunk in Part One of this blog and per Redneck Grandma's comments, I guess I was pretty generous by offering the stretchy bungee cords as opposed
to her ratchet-down straps.
Mike was our fearless leader at the Relay for Life and kept everyone's spirits high, continually checking back and forth to AR and the Relay for Life website for updates on his goal of $1,000. Success!
- thanks to all who contributed.
Linda Harvey, Mike's wife, is a lovely lady who knows how to handle him. With a quick comment and a demure little smirk, she's a perfect match. Here's a pic of him thumping his chest "I'm the man"
and her "Yeah, right".
I don't think he looks too happy about being the pack mule.
Also known as "Bob"
The ladies in the car kept Mike "on his toes" and the poor fella didn't really stand a chance.
I'm sure by now you are eagerly awaiting the details of Mike's ride to my home in Illinois. Here's a hint... he got my car keys and started packing the trunk himself. Imagine that... he doesn't quite
fit this time. Wonder how that happened? So I let him drive part of the way (since he had kidnapped my keys!).
Seriously, I had the most amazing time with my fellow travelers. It was awesome meeting Mike Harvey and his dear wife Linda, and continuing my friendship with Lady Sparkle, my roomie, and the Thelma
to my Louise. I loved seeing everyone again and meeting new friends. Until we meet again... love you all!
