Totally OT - Upcoming Vacation

Well, that bites.  I typed the whole thing, had a slip of the finger and the whole darn thing disappeared, so here we go again.

I know, I know, this is totally off-topic, but where else do you turn when you're going on vacation and looking for great places to eat, fun things to do or see?  Our son is going into the army in September, so DH & I are taking him on one last vacation with us before he goes in.  He's the only child, so hanging with Mom & Dad isn't always the most fun since he doesn't have anyone to hang out with his age.  Unless.... there are a lot of cars making left turns.  That's right... DH & DS are (drumroll please) NASCAR fans!  Which I guess since it's on every Sunday, it means that I am too (sort of).  We are heading to Bristol, TN for 3 action-packed days of racing.

Heading out Saturday from central Illinois to Evansville, IN to see niece & her family, then on to Louisville, KY to see nephew on Sunday.  Will probably spend most of Monday in the Louisville area and then will begin to meander our way south through Lexington, KY and then on to Knoxville, TN.  Will probably hit Dollywood and/or Gatlinburg.  Wednesday is truck racing, Thursday is open, and Friday & Saturday are racing.  Will head back Sunday/Monday.

Any zoos in the area?  I'm sucker for them and if DH & DS know what's good for them, they'll love the idea.

Once we get back from vacation, we'll be planning my son's going away party for hometown friends.  He has incredibly beautiful curly hair (about 12" in a ponytail), that he will have cut at his party and donate to Locks of Love.

Any ideas appreciated.  TIA everybody!

Have to admit I have never been to KY or IN, but when I am traveling, i always check out to find reviews of restaurants in the area. Usually they are spot on.

There is a zoo in Knoxville. Also a great Italian drive-in called Pizza Palace. Zero atmosphere (either eat in your car or find a nearby park), amazing food.

Nope, no ideas on this end MB, but just wanted to wish you happy/safe travels! I have not been to a zoo in since the kids were little and then we rode the elephant or was it a camel? Well, which ever it was way up off the ground and swaying. LOL. Dollywood would be a HOOT! I would love that too! You should go on TV network site and look for Guy's Diner's Drive in's and Dives and see where he has been out there. You might find a great spot for lunch/dinner. Hope you have a nice time and tell your DS what a terrific and Honorable thing he is doing for His country, We all Thank him, even if it scares the H@ll out of his folks, Thank You too! God Bless:) Love, Patty

SWChef & Cupcake - I love zoos! I think we'll hit Louisville. DH & DS know they're going to see lions, tigers & bears whether they like it or not when we go on vacation. Patty-forgot about Guy's show. I've looked thing up for other vacations, but completely missed it for this one. Will check it out. Thanks Maui, Mike & Cat and everybody for best wishes. Looking forward to it, hope I don't melt into a puddle with the heat & humidity!
