I grew up in Alabama and then moved to North Carolina when I was 15 years old. After marrying my wonderful husband, we started moving around. My mother-in-law had been to over 40 countries and had collected favorite recipes in her travels. I wanted to continue the tradition and started doing the same thing. In the 9 years I have collected dozens of recipes from over 15 countries plus the ones my mother-in-law passed on to me. I love trying to combine different flavors. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. Now, my husband and I with our two beautiful boys, are living/working in Siberia, Russia.
My favorite things to cook
I love to try to cook anything from desserts to meats and casseroles. If I had to pick one, though, it would have to be desserts.
My favorite family cooking traditions
For the past 15 years my sisters and I have built a gingerbread house for Christmas. My profile picture is of me in front of the gingerbread house we did for the National Gingerbread Competition at the Grove Park Inn in North Carolina. We didn't place but are still very proud of it.
My cooking triumphs
I haven't had many but I like my Extra Lemony Lemon Cupcakes. I also decorate cakes and am pretty good at it.
My cooking tragedies
Where to start? I guess the most famous ones are the Fried Bologna Surprise (where I served fried bologna and cottage cheese together when I was 12 years old). The other famous one is when I accidentally substituted sand for brown sugar in chocolate chip cookies. It's a long story but they look just alike (believe me). I also exploded a boiled egg.
