Old Fashioned Kentucky Nut Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2001
I didn't have enough walnuts so I substituted chopped macadamia nuts instead. Wow!

Homemade Fresh Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2001
I found that it didn't make quite 2 pies, otherwise it was a nice pumpkin pie. I had never steamed pumpkin before, always baked it, so that was a nice change in preparation.

Country Oatmeal Cookie in a Jar

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2002
I gave this to a co-worker for her and her 6 year old twins to enjoy. They liked it so much the ate the batter before making any cookies! She then asked for the recipe so they could show some restraint and make cookies instead of eating the dough.

Texas BBQ Chicken

Reviewed: May 20, 2002
It smells great, but lacks the spicy zip that you would expect from the aroma. Good if you like mild, tame if you like spice.

Best Barbequed Burgers

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2002
Taste was great but my burgers fell apart around the ends. I followed the recipe to a 't'. Anyone else find this? I did use lean ground beef: would that make a difference?

Beer Butt Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2002
Instead of 1 cup of butter we used about 1/4 cup of oil in the beer can mixture and made a beer/oil/garlic/paprika baste and it turned out great!

Sausage Pasta

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2003
We found it 'salt-less' and that it needed some salt. 1/2 tsp should be fine. All I can say is know your sausage and make sure it's hot, or this dish will lack the zippy flavour that it could have.

Hearty Breakfast Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2003
Totally yummy!!! I used dried cranberries instead of raisins and they came out excellent. Great recipe for people who cannot sit down for breakfast or maybe for hikers who need some portable energy. Thanks for the recipe.

I cooked the mixture for about 3 minutes and they ended up nice and soft. Totally yummy, just as I remembered.

Czech Roast Pork

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2008
The first time I made this I didn't have caraway so I used paprika. I also placed it in my crock pot for about 5 hours on high. It kept all the liquid in so I strained the liquid, thickened it as per the recipe directions, and then added the onions back in. Yum! The second time I made it I followed the directions exactly (in the oven, open roasting pan) and while the taste was good, the juices/beer evaporated and all I was left with in the pan was roasted onions. No liquid. I think I prefer the crock pot method b/c it allowed for a wicked yummy gravy. Both times I made it, there was not a speck of pork left. Great recipe!

I really liked this recipe. I was skeptical at first because there was no fish sauce, but it has a great taste. Very easy to make. I will definitely make this again!

Pizza Dough II

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2009
This is an excellent crust and similar to a Regina style crust (for those of you who know what Houston or Western Pizza is in Western Canada. I add spices into the dough to enhance the flavour sometimes. I divide the dough into 3 pieces and make 3 crusts. I have even saved one of the dough pieces and wrapped it in plastic for later use. I want to try the dough for calzones but haven't gotten to that yet. I use a 9 x 13 stoneware from Pampered Chef to cook my pizzas on. 20 minutes or so to bake and I've never had an issue with soggy crust or toppings.

I enjoyed this variation. I added about a tsp of chili lime hot sauce to kick it up even a bit further. Thanks for the recipe!
