About this Cook
I live in Osaka, Japan, where I've been for the last seven years. I have a tiny apartment, a tiny kitchen, and a big tall boyfriend :-) I like to cook and bake because it saves money and sometimes gives us food choices that we wouldn't find at restaurants here (e.g, good Mexican food & proper cake). I'm so lucky, because my boyfriend loves all kinds of food!
My favorite things to cook
Baking is my favorite, and is where I indulge my sweet tooth. Cooking is where I try to pay a bit more attention to nutrition. Lately I've been making comfort foods and desserts from home (when I can; ingredients can be scarce), because food is something I get really homesick for. I can make Japanese food too and do enjoy it, so maybe I'll post some recipes...
My favorite family cooking traditions
I always loved my Grandma Audrey's fried potatoes, and my Grandma Katie's spaghetti and meatballs; and my Grandpa Bob is a cookie-making machine during the holidays!! For the last few years I've also been making a Christmas breakfast for my family when I'm there visiting--it's the same every year, breakfast casserole & cinnamon crumble coffee cake.
My cooking triumphs
Helping my cousin Rachel pull off an entire Thanksgiving dinner here in Japan a couple years ago was an experience I'll never forget--what a special day :-)
My cooking tragedies
Not so many of those come to mind... maybe I blocked them out ;-)

Lamb Chops with Balsamic Reduction
This could not have been easier to make! It was the first time I'd ever cooked with lamb, but I followed the recipe exactly and it turned out perfectly. Awesome dish!

Hearty Vegetable Lasagna
Yum! I used oven-ready lasagna noodles, so the prep was really quick and easy. I subbed spinach for the green peppers, and put a little salt & pepper in the cheese mixture, but those were my only changes. It was perfect--satisfying, saucy, and cheesy. I'll definitely make this again!

Red Velvet Cupcakes
Yum yum YUM! This is one of the best homemade cupcake recipes I've ever tried. They turned out nice and moist, with a great devil's food flavor. This one's a keeper! :^)
