Made this today for dinner to test recipe before serving to guests next week and it was scrumptious! The top and bottom were crispy and and it tasted like french toast/blueberry pancakes. I followed advice given in reviews, used a whole loaf of french bread and 3 extra thick slices of homemade white bread to fill the top layer. Only used 1 package of cream cheese mixed with 1/4 cup of powder sugar, a few drops of vanilla and a dash of cinnamon. Used 2 cups of frozen blueberries from last Summer, not thawed. Instead of maple syrup, I used 1/3 cup sugar, a dash of salt and sprinkled cinnamon on top before refrigerating. I only had time to refrigerate for 5 hours. Sprinkled some white sugar on top layer of bread cubes right before baking. It baked up in 1 hour. All of the liquid was absorbed--not soggy or gooey at all. It was served with warm maple syrup to save time today. (made that before and it's a 10 star)Just perfect! Will definitely make this again and with other fruits as well.
