Italian Spaghetti Sauce with Meatballs

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2011
Best spaghetti and meatballs recipe I have tried. I followed the recipe exactly as written (how else can you rate a recipe??) There is no need to pre-cook the meatballs; I used ground round. People who have tried this recipe at my house think it's a secret family recipe (my folks are Italian). And I love the fact that I know what I am feeding my family (no artificial anything!) Thanks, Jeremy!

Wonderful Banana Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2010
Wow! This is outstanding. I almost felt guilty making this cake and passing it off as homemade because of how easy it is. But I used three bananas (small ones) and baked for 40 min. at 350. It came out perfect, moist, and most importantly, lost the "boxed cake" taste. My kids said, "Mom, make this for my birthday cake!". For icing, I used sugar free banana cream pie pudding mix, 1 cup skim milk and 8 oz. lite cool whip. It was so good and was gone in less than 24 hours!!!!!

Shrimp Francesca

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2010
This is an outstanding and crazy-easy recipe. My kids all thought it was delicious and said, "Mom, make this every week!" Highly recommend. Didn't have Romano but Parm worked just fine. Otherwise, I followed the recipe as written. Also good with white wine in place of the lemon juice if you don't have any on hand.

Ashley's Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2009
I know there are only so many ingredients and combinations that can make "chocolate chip cookies." So as I re-read the recipe, I can't figure out why these are so great and so perfect. I have tried making great c.c. cookies for years and I think I've finally found my recipe. These are not as cake-like as other reviewers made them sound. They spread out just right on my pan. Delicious, only wish I had doubled the recipe!!

Kids Favorite Meatloaf

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2009
This was wonderful, and aptly named. I think what makes it kid-friendly is the absence of onion. Onion powder is probably more palatable to kids. It also is slightly sweet, so if you prefer a more savory meatloaf, you may not like this one. But we all thoroughly enjoyed it and will add it to our "meatloaf repertoire."

Salisbury Steak

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2009
I typically don't review a recipe if I change it at all, but I felt like my idea could help someone else. I was extremely short on time, so I used cubed sirloin steaks that were already made into "steaks". I seasoned the outside with Montreal Steak seasoning and then grilled each one on my Foreman grill. Then I proceeded with the recipe as provided. It was delicious and I love the sauce it makes, especially over mashed potatoes. Definitely tastes better than it sounds like it will. Try it!

Baked Dijon Salmon

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2008
This is delish. I didn't have pecans and it was still good. Everyone ate it, even picky kids. This is one of my favorite ways of making salmon from this site.

Balsamic-Glazed Salmon Fillets

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2008
I read that others thought this didn't smell good while it was cooking. I sort of know what they mean, but when you reduce the glaze, it gets really thick and syrupy and concentrated so maybe that's why. But when you glaze the salmon and then bake it, it's truly amazing. My entire family loved it and now they call this recipe "Slammin" instead of "Salmon". I have made several salmon recipes on this site, but keep coming back to this one. Try it!!

French Toast Bake

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2008
This is seriously the best french toast recipe I've ever had. I think, after reading all the reviews, that people who got a soggy result didn't use enough bread. While at the bakery, I noticed that there were two distinct sizes of french bread loaves. I used the extra large one and the recipe was perfect. This was amazing and everyone scarfed it up quickly. Try it, you won't be sorry.

Chicken and Broccoli Braid

Reviewed: Mar. 24, 2008
Very good, but I think I will only use 1 tsp. dill next time. My 12 year old said, "mom, this kinda tastes like pickles." Not the review I was shooting for...Anyway, very good and the almonds were amazing. Even better the next day!

The Best Meatballs You'll Ever Have

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2008
Very good and moist. I baked at 350 for 25 minutes and they were perfect. As a family who likes spicy food, I found them a little too spicy. I would cut the red pepper flakes in half. If you are a family who doesn't like spicy food, cut it out altoghter, as the cajun seasoning and other stuff adds plenty of kick. I will be using this recipe from now on...

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2008
To say that a chocolate chip cookie is "the best tasting one" is equivalent to saying a husband is the "best looking one." It all depends on your taste, I have found. I prefer soft fat, cakey and a little crispy on the outside cookies. I HATE gooey fudgy cookies. But when I made these for a Super Bowl party, they were placed alongside my friend's cookies that were basically flat, gooey, wet fudgy things. Exactly half of the people ate hers, and half ate mine. So, to me, these are delicious and my quest for a cookie recipe has ended. I followed the recipe, but most folks prefer it without nuts. I also added salt which was good. Hope this helps.

Roquefort Pear Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2007
If I could give this 10 stars, I would. This is OMG good. People are slightly disgusted if you tell them the ingredients ahead of time, but when they taste it, it quickly becomes the favorite part of the meal. I have made it several times and it travels well as long as you add the nut mixture and dressing right before serving. I haven't met one person who has not asked me for this recipe after tasting it. Try it! You'll astound your friends at what an awesome cook you are!

Mid-Summer Italian Bread Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2007
This was good, but for some reason not popular at the potluck I attended. It was not my favorite, but still pretty good. This is one of those recipes you have to eat at one sitting. Otherwise it gets pretty soggy.

Flatlander Chili

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2007
I've made this twice now and I think it's going to be my new standby. I noticed a lot of folks didn't use quite the same volume of juice that the recipe calls for, but I used V8 juice for the tomato juice. It was perfect, still thick enough to be hearty, but not so thick that it was like sloppy joes. This is just such a great basic recipe and I am so happy to find it. Cornbread on the side makes for one delicious meal.

Slow Cooker Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2007
I thought this was really good. I made it for Thanksgiving and everyone commented that they were the best mashed potatoes they ever ate! I couldn't figure out why they were so good, but I think the garlic and the broth were the key. Also, I didn't peel my potatoes, so that gave them some extra color and flavor. I only used a little butter, dotted over the top of the potatoes in the crock pot, but otherwise followed the recipe. Thanks!

Annie's Fruit Salsa and Cinnamon Chips

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2007
I made this while at the beach with 30+ people. It was a favorite of the entire group! To save time, we used Stacy's Cinnamon Pita Chips and I would recommend anyone short on time to do the same. It was wonderful. The next day, we put the leftovers on vanilla icecream and everyone scarfed it down. What a great recipe. Thanks!

Stuffed Peppers

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2007
I really liked the "bones" of this recipe. A couple of things I would like to mention: I must have used very generously sized peppers, because I didn't have enough filling for 6 peppers. 4 would have been perfect. I also took the advice of other reviewers and added fresh chopped onion (1/2 of a large) and fresh garlic. As far as the sauce, I didn't think there was enough to provide any basting sauce, so add more sauce if you need it. However, if you parboil the peppers as one person suggested, you won't need extra sauce. This is just such a good basic recipe. I had been looking for one that I could use as a basic and then "tweak" depending on what our mood is, or what's in season. Thanks for sharing this recipe!

Celery Smashers with Cream Gravy

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2006
Wow is all I can say. I was looking for a different mashed potato recipe. Tonight I wanted to make meatballs so I decided to change the cream gravy slightly by using beef broth instead of chicken. I made the potatoes and then warmed the meatballs in the cream gravy. My 4 children loved the dinner and said, "you should make this every night!" So, so good!

Oven Pot Roast

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2006
This was amazing! I didn't have cream of mushroom soup, only cream of celery soup, but it was delicious. Also, I used the whole packet of onion soup mix, and I think I would do that again. I didnt' have any vermouth, but I did have some white wine I used, with excellent results. My whole family loved it, and I also made some gravy with the juices in the pan. I will definitely use this from now on!
