About this Cook
I love to cook, and now I have moved from Scotland to Texas and am jobless, I have more time, and a whole host of new ingredients! I am more used to cooking entrees than baking, but am giving it a go now I have time to experiment.
My favorite things to cook
Oh, pretty much anything! Having lived in Glasgow in an area with a large Asian community I love curries, and they are one of my favourite things to cook. I also love anything Italian. I am more used to cooking on the hob than in the oven, and try to stuff as many veggies as possible into a meal, regardless of the recipe!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I haven't learned a lot of recipes from my mum, but she did make awesome homemade desserts and traybakes when I was a kid, and I might try and re-create some of these.
My cooking triumphs
I made salmon gravadlax once which I was very proud of at the time, although I don't think it is that hard, it just took a while.
My cooking tragedies
My first attempt at a roast didn't go that great - 3 cooks in a very small kitchen (it was a uni flat) meant a lot of stress, and not many dishes were ready at the same time. We were knackered by the time we ate it!

Pineapple Salsa
I loved the flavors in this, but think lime juice would have worked better. I had already added the oj, so I just grated in some lime zest, which helped give the sharp flavor I was looking for.

Mexican Bean Salad
I love this salad - although I half the oil and vinegar quantities. I also add cilantro as well as parsley, and any other veggies I have going to waste in the fridge. It also tastes amazing the next couple of days, so make sure you make too much!
